....... Probably gets similar fuel mileage towing as well. ..... .

My '99 K1500 6.5 with 3.42 gears (14 bolt SF) got 16 mpg towing my 2200 lb Rally car & a U-Haul trailer when I bought the truck in KY. All interstate miles, though.

Just cruising about 90 mph (Hey, we roll in East Tn) .... < 3psi boost, 700 degrees EGT & gettin' 14+ mpg.

Now, don't get me wrong, I have gotten 10 mpg with more load & lots of speed in the hills..... there's lots of hills in East Tn. The 3.42 gears did not like hills.

Used to have a 99 classic with the 6.5 and I remember it being really good on fuel When it ran haha. Had so much fun with that truck, was badly rusted and the tranny finally went so I let it go. Wouldn’t mind getting another someday

No power comparison to my current 6.6 though

I passed a trooper on I-40 in west TN on I-40 with the cruise set at 98 mph heading home from Ohio a few years ago. Similar MPG from my small cam/headers/tuned 5.7 and 3.73 geared 350 Express van.

Clean the cooling stack, do a flowmaster crossover pipe, diamondeye exhaust, boost, pyro and fuel pressure gauges, remote mount the pmd on a heat sink, duramax fan, high flow water pump, get real oil cooler lines, fluidamper balancer, Leroy diesel solid crank pulley, ditch the turbo for hx35 or hx40 and get the maximum towing distance for AAA. Pray every time that you start the truck, carry a charged cell phone and keep good walking shoes in the truck at all times. I'm sure that I'm forgetting stuff but that should be able to get you around a city block without too much worrying.
Would add a better lift pump and upgraded lift pump wiring to that list.

hahah, at least I got a giggle out of all of that. Deal I’ve worked out allready has a diamond eye. Will work on the crossover as well PMD is allready done. Infact every 6.5 I’ve ever owned has allready had it done. Allready has gauges. Being in the prairies, cooling has never been a issue for me on prior trucks, ever. Don’t want to invest in the fluid dampner since I’ve been told with our cold temps they don’t stand up well. With the wicked wheel, I’m not seeing a total use of the hx35 or 40 but will be damned sure if it’s got play it’ll just get an upgrade to them anyway. But yes, won’t be a daily driver. Will be a fun Sunday driver to the farm and do work out there. For everyday use I have my 2010.
