This is great! I love seeing a great truck getting more love. Keep the updates coming please! Did you have the 5.9 rebuilt?

Slowly but surely the parts are rolling in and I'm making some progress on the build. I've spent some time getting the engine cleaned and ready. The short block is ready, just waiting to get the head back from the machine shop. A few more parts should show up by this weekend and it will be ready to reassemble. Once the engine runs on the stand and is ready to go, Ill go ahead and yank the 454 out. I'm almost scared to total everything up but it's going to so much more capable for my needs; I can't wait.

I learned years ago to NEVER total up receipts to see what I've got in a project. But it doesn't really matter because I used to love working on projects. Plus I told my wife it's cheaper than going to bars. I really enjoy following your progress. You have got a lot of talent.

I didnt have the bottom end rebuilt. Truthfully, it didn't need it. Bearings looked good and cross hatches were still on the cylinder walls. Plus it ran fine when I pulled it from the donor truck. I brought the cylinder head to the machine shop just to have it checked out, resurfaced, cleaned up, and get a valve job on it.

Assuming the head comes back tomorrow or Saturday, I'll get it back together and fired up this weekend. That would make me feel a bit better about all of the money spent so far. All total, this is probably going to be pushing $10k to build. Granted, a fair portion of the cost is upgrades and new parts, but I don't want to tear into this thing again anytime soon, especially not once it's in the truck.

I can't really take any of the credit on this truck up to this point. Dave did a great job on everything he did when he owned it.

As far as the cost, yeah, it can get depressing to total it all up. The truck wasn't exactly cheap by itself, the factor in the airfare, fuel and travel expenses to get it. Now with this Cummins swap things are getting really crazy. Oh, well. It'll be one hell of a tow rig when it's all done and it'll be exactly what I want.

Saw the pictures of the double din but I guess I missed where it was installed.

Still making progress...slowly. Got the head back last week and am almost ready to install it. Had to get the rocker pedestals machined for the ARP head studs and a few other misc items taken care of first.

Also got the custom motor mounts from SSOR. They are specifically made for the GMT400/Cummins swaps. Expensive, but I was happy when I saw the welds. They mimic the 2nd gen Dodge setup which are arguably stronger than the 1st gen style.

Anyway, I wish I had more GMT400 specific stuff to show right now, but I'm still getting the engine cleaned up, resealed and put back together. I should be able to get it fired up this week and then the teardown of the 454 will begin after the weekend of February 8th.

For what it's worth, I cannot wait to really get this project underway.
