There is nothing wrong with the vortec FI system. The stock injectors/ fpr need to be replaced but that doesn't make the system bad. With some upgraded injectors and a tune you can throw whatever cam you want at these things, you just need a good tuner.

I have that exact same cam, and it ran just fine on the black box with new injectors, then I 0411 swapped and went with bigger injectors and it still ran well, now i have a rear mount turbo on it and the FI still works just fine.

I also have roller-tip rockers and adjustable valvetrain under the stock covers. I do agree that roller rockers probably are useless on these engines though.

As a side note, nice looking truck.
Thanks on the truck! No longer mine.
The Vortec FI is not an innately evil system. The problem relates to it being difficult to work on due to layout. Wiring, fuel lines, injectors, regulator all under the plenum being cooked. GM screwed up on their truck FI in the gmt400s. They tried to use components from newer engines on an old big block design. I have the same gripe with my Ram 3500. They keep scabbing on exhaust and emissions controls that are doomed to fail. And fail very expensively. Great Cummins engine, OK truck. But the emissions system is crap. Oh well....It looks cool.
BTW, the 2" hood came from Tamraz on Ebay. I was pleased with the hood. It fit, and arrived without damage. Very cool!

If your truck has spent any of its life in the rust belt, you should also look at the hard brake line between the rear axle and the fuel filter. It has a habit of failing by the plastic bracket on the frame rail where it's hidden by the fuel tank. If it's been down South its whole life you shouldn't have a problem.

No. .035 is for all plugs. If you bought NGK or Denso for your truck, they are probably already gapped correctly. That's why the cardboard tube. I'd check them anyway.
