Just installed a new Kenwood receiver and now there is no sound from the rear speakers. Can not find any settings that help. Is there an amp or something for the rear that's not being turned on?

I'm assuming you're talking about a '99 K1500 Suburban based on your sig? Also assuming that you mean the speakers in the rear passenger doors, not the 4"x10"s in the rear roof?

There's a factory amplifier in the Suburbans that runs the rear door speakers. You'll need to connect the remote turn on lead from your new head unit to the turn-on signal wire for that amp in your radio harness. If you used the Metra vehicle side dash harness adapter for your head unit install then it's most likely a blue wire, check your install instructions though.

Did the speakers work previously? If so follow above. If not the first thing is to manually test the speakers by connecting something directly to them. These speakers are infamous for quitting with no noise whatsoever. First make sure they work, then worry about the rest. The Kenwood head unit will handle 4 speakers hooked up directly by itself. When I installed mine I discovered that all four speakers were completely shot.

The Kicker KS series 4"x10"s are about as good as you can get IMO. Most of the other options use foam surrounds, the KS use real rubber and will last much longer. Model number 44KSC41004, you can get them for around $80.

Got the Kickers ordered. The Crutchfield site says they do not fit my 99 Suburban. Do you know why that is?

No I don't, but myself and a couple other members here have run them with no issues. Crutchfield tends to be overly cautious with their fitment guide, I think.

Do you know if they come ready to plug in with my factory wiring or will I need to do something else to connect?

I believe there is a wiring harness that allows direct connection but I'm having trouble finding it at the moment... I'll try and dig it up.

EDIT - Can't find it... It may be a direct connection with spade terminals for those. Been a long time, I don't remember...

DOUBLE EDIT - Found it! Metra 72-4500.
