Someone swapped 'em out then. The old style was terrible, the leads from the harness to the sockets were outright exposed to the elements. Both our '88 C3500 and '89 K1500 had the old style with those leads and 1157 sockets. The later style will indeed swap right in place of the old boards, taillight, harness and all.

I replaced my circuit boards or board, maybe it was just one side like 3 times. Still didnt work. Oh I was pissed. Then I found this rats nest of wiring and connectors for the trailer plug and wiggled & tightened the connector. Fixed my messed up circuit board immediately. Frigging amazing.

I had a set of the old style... did they only have a partial year run? I thought my dad's old 90 had them, but maybe not. I got a set for my truck from somewhere, hoping they'ed be better than the circuit boards. I don't think I used them long.

I'd wager to say they were used for two years. Our '88 C3500 had 'em and then my late build '89 also had them. The '88 was 95% rust free when we got it although it had sat. Even then, those boards were toasted. I would've tried to save them if it was possible though. My '89's boards were also shot, yet someone had tried to run wire and solder rather than just replace. Was a mess.

^ I run those exact Anzos in both of my '97s. Had them for a few years now, no issues. I also like the fact that the reverse light wraps around the entire housing unlike the small window on the factory tails. Makes backing up at night a little easier.

I run a similar set as well on my 98. They are SPPC, similar to Anzo. Great tail lights, no issues. Anzo's stuff is a little expensive, but worth it for the quality. :waytogo:

I know it may be more of a last resort, but I found these, and I'll be ordering a set in the next few weeks, but they have a harness to plug into the switchboard plug, and it just makes a standard style harness going to the individual lights, thus eliminating the whole issue. People seem to be happy about them from what I've seen, they still have a stock look to them, and I've heard very good things about SPPC warranty. I'll post my thoughts when I order them, and when they come in.
