Hey all, I have a question about my Detroit 6.5L. For the most part, I know this engine pretty well & it has been a fun beast. I had the Diamond Eye turbo back back installed & now the damn MAP sensor keeps faulting out. I'm stumped. Is there a way to do a "bypass" or "delete"? I have replaced it & rewired it, no luck. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Is it a 2 bar or 3 bar map sensor? Does the turbo kit require an upgrade to a 3bar?

Have you checked the wiring to the map sensor plug? Was it maybe pinched or burnt somewhere during the install?

I really don't know what bar it is, honestly. The exhaust kit didn't specify a MAP upgrade & it ran fine for close to a month after install. I have turned the boost back down & am tracing wiring now. This Suburban has been a beast so far, I love it, it has towed a couple of cars on the hauler, with no issues. It's really irking me that I can't figure it out, I'm usually pretty good at it.

You dont need to change the map sensor for the exhaust upgrade. When you replaced the sensor did you also replace the gasket where it goes into the upper intake? Also when you rewired it how far did you go with the wiring. Looking at my 6.5 the wiring for it runs down and under the intake. I know from reading on other forums that with the harness running under the intake causes issues. As far as I know you cannot bypass it as the ecm uses it for monitoring the boost levels.

Thank you so much. I did order a new MAP sensor & harness, there is a break in the wiring right before it goes under the intake. I did not order a new gasket for the MAP sensor though, I will look into that too. How do I know what "bar" the sensor is? What is the difference?

I have done a lot to this motor, with great success. It has the PMD relocate, the vacuum pump delete with new serpentine belt & manual turbo wastegate controller, exhaust temp gauge, boost gauge, water pump/fan/fan clutch upgrade, 4" turbo back Diamond Eye straight pipe, & K&N Filter.

To be honest I have no idea on how to tell what "bar" it is or what the difference is. I know some upgrades need a different map sensor for them to work better. Also from what I have read the best thing to do with the wiring harness is to pull it from under the intake and place it on top to help reduce problems like you are having and also make repairs easier. When I pull my intake to do valve cover gaskets im going to do it.

You don’t need a different bar map sensor unless your tuner informs you. Some folks over the years have played around with changing them, but it really isn’t needed that I have found. Condition of wiring is more important than a map sensor. You may need to rebuild or replace your engine harness due to how old the harness is at this point.

Thank you so much for the info, I appreciate it. Quick questions, though. How did your Feed The Beast turn out? Noticeable improvements? I am looking into doing that next.

For me it was hard to differentiate, as I did a bunch of upgrades at once. It’s a good idea to do in general. Be sure you get diesel rated sealant.
