I'm pretty sure the rivets are made of Kryptonite. The first time I changed the upper BJ's on my '91 years ago motivated me to buy a set of cobalt drill bits. My good old timey USA made HSS bits would dull in about 30 seconds even at slow speed. Cobalt bits and lots of cutting oil, then it's not too bad.

Allegedly, some guys torch 'em out, others have CLAIMED they grind the heads off and punch them out (I be skeptical).

Eons from now, the rest of the truck will be dust, but those rivets will still look like new...........

I ground off the heads and tried to punch me out with no luck. I ended up having to cut the old ball joint off because it was siezed to the control arm, and then I had to drill out the rivets, and I broke two of Em for three rivets! Ridiculous

I just replaced my upper ball joint today. I need to meet whoever at gm decided to rivet in a ball joint. I just wanna talk lmao
I just got new uppers with ball joints and bushings pre-installed. That should make things easier.

Edit: Do you happen to remember what size socket is needed for the castle nut?

I ground the heads off mine and drove them out with an air hammer lol. An air hammer, pickle fork attachment, punch attachment, and a hammer attachment made that whole front end rebuild a breeze really.

Went by napa a saw these. Not way was I walking out without em, they were only 60. They had non ratcheting standard wrenches for 80 so these were helluva deal.

The Gearwrench ratcheting flex wrenches are the best tools I've bought so far next to my Milwaukee power tools. I just hate the flex heads don't have a lock on them.

I bought a Chinese engine crane & stand, I'll post a picture sometime if I get to put it to use! It's a first for me, I might be able to pull an engine this week. Depending on whether or not someone ends up selling a '99 RR that's come to the end of it's life-cycle. It might be giving to me for salvaging and a practice run on removing engines.
If anyone is in Europe (I know the chances are slim) and in need of any P38 (Land Rover) bits, including a BMW diesel inline 6. Don't be shy.
