Hello everyone. I'm a happy new owner of a 1997 k1500 extended cab with the 6.5 foot bed. Truck has over a quarter million miles but runs like a little top, sometimes. It has the speedometer issues I have vaguely heard about, it also doesn't shift right. But only intermittently! Once it warms up and I stop somewhere, buy a coke or whatever, everything works fine. tach, speedo shift position indicator light all work and the transmissions shifts as it should. Anyway, off to the tech area to see how I can fix this thing. It seems that since it is capable of working correctly, unplugging and plugging connectors and fuses might help.

I don't have any pics of the old beast yet. She is a green, steel wheels and has some bloody good Goodrich meats. Love the thing already. I just have to make her run right 100% of the time instead of 75% of the time. Thank you for the welcome.

Oh, guess I should mention a little bit about myself in the introduction section. I'm just your typical dude, going through life trying to be a decent person, mid 50's, living out in the wilds of northern New Mexico. There are many wonderful roads out here to explore in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range and the Jemez range. I explored them all once before about 25 years ago when I had my first Chevy, 1981 K10. Loved that truck too.

Welcome Tony, I have a new project myself, so I know where you're coming from. Gets me into the garage, so that's good.

Welcome to the forum, and congrats on owning a '97! All the benefits like the Vortec engines and OBD2 diagnostics, and none of the headaches of the PassLock system from '98+.

Oh wow. That is good to know. Thank you for that. Being immobilized by a security system would not be a good idea up in the woods, or even at the mall.
