I'm not sure what you guys are talking about. After spending years driving the 6.2, getting 22 mpg loaded, the 6.5 was a race horse! And still in the low 20's loaded. My friends family had 2 diesel Escorts in the '80's, both were low 60's on mpg, and absolutely gutless! We took a 3500 mile round trip from Wisconsin to Utah and only spent about $45 in fuel. Now it costs me $130 to fill the tank on the Burb and I can't even drive a whole day without needing more fuel! The cheapest I remember paying for gas in the '80's was $0.69 a gallon, and diesel was cheaper than that.

I sure wish gas a lot cheaper than it is, but still cheaper than last year though, thanks to Trump. It was around $3.49/gallon last year, now it's around $2.79/gallon. Thankful for that, but wish it was around $2, that would significantly decrease my expenses.

I do remember back in '08, in Iowa, the highest gas price was for unleaded w/o ethanol was $4.02/gallon! I still remember that 11 years later, glad it hasn't gotten that high since then, but last year it was creeping up to around $3.89 at one point. With a 3/4 ton truck and a gas guzzling JD 318 wasn't helping me at all lol. Now that I daily a half-ton and a JD 445 expenses aren't as bad as they were, still not great though. :)

When I got my driver's license in 1969 gas was 27.9/gal, I could drive around all day on a $1, LOL. Of course my 1st job I made $1.60/Hr so, I guess it's all relative.

Pumped many gallons while working part time in high school for 24.9 25.9 people would wear you out running to the pumps for a dollars worth at a time. And it was full service, so whatever else was included in full service had to be done for that dollars worth as well.

CA has some "regulations" that encourage junk yards (recycling centers) to crush everything. Have to look far and wide to find a GMT400. Were I live we have a real parts store. They can get or make just about any mechanical parts we need.

I sure remember the days of 30 cent gas and running from pump to pump doing full service. Will never forgot the "old fogies" that pointed at the spots on the windshield and got mad when we mentioned the spot was caused by their fingers on the inside of the windshield!

We were cruising one night and stopped into an all-night gas station. They had the nerve to ask 54 cents a gallon for 93 octane premium! Anyone remember the surfing movie "The Endless Summer" and how shocked they were at $4 gas in Africa?

Now we have over a dollar tax on each gallon, so you're lucky to find 87 octane for $4! :-(

How's life in Eastern Tennessee?

I drove from Maine to western CO 12 months ago and according to my records I paid 2.759 in Des Moines on 5/9. I didn't pay extra for the ethanol free. That's in the ballpark of the cost here in Maine right now. Prices in CO were higher but that was due to my unwillingness to run 85 octane. NE and IL were about the same.

I intend to do the same in September. Hopefully prices don't go up any more before then. :) My daily gets 30mpg and I still used nearly 200 gallons.

I don't think prices should be going up for a while, or at least I hope. :) They seem to be a decent price right now.

How did you not pay extra for the ethanol-free? Or did you mean there's not a huge tax on it? I do know the Super Unleaded (ethanol) is usually 50 cents or more cheaper than Unleaded (ethanol-free).
