I figure it’s time to make my own project thread for this truck. First few posts might be awful. I tend to be a bit long winded. I’ll keep it as short as possible. Here’s the back story.

I picked the truck up this past December in FL. A couple one way tickets and a 1300mi drive got it back home to RI. This is when the truck was dubbed Waylon, as it proved to be lonesome, on’ry and mean. We were left stuck on the side of the road a few times. A new MAF and Crank Position Sensor, changed in parts stores parting lot got us home from NC without further issue. Averaged about 13mpg on the trip, which I was happy with.

I bought the truck to replace my 02 S10 ZR2. 16 New England winters have left her in pretty sad shape. We needed a bigger towpig, so this should suit my needs for a long time to come.

Already used this pic in the sticky, oh well.

This truck is going to be my tow-pig, so it’s “build” will be with that in mind.

I currently have a 2008 Fleetwood Williamsburg popup, so this truck will be complete overkill for that. The wife loves camping, and has plans of a 5th wheel in the near future, so I needed a truck with room to grow. 13,500lbs should be plenty of towing capacity.

The truck is generally in great shape, but being from FL, any plastic parts are pretty much junk. The first thing I replaced was the marker lamps on the cab. The rubber was dry rotted and leaking into the overhead console. While I was in there I stole Dave’s idea for Sirius antenna.

Next up was the headlights. Driving in the dark was an adventure. The turn signals were actually brighter than the headlights.

Replacements were the finest Chinese housings Amazon had to offer. Taking the advice from the headlight thread, I used Phillips HIR 9011 and X-tremevision 9006, with a Morimoto relay harness. No reports from the road yet, but much improved in the driveway.

I’d really like to get my hands on those Brazilian housings if importing is ever figured out.

I also threw on some AVS in channel vent visors.

The factory CD player was shot, so I pulled out the old Pioneer AVIC-P4000DVD from my ZR2. When I have nothing else to buy for this thing, I’d like to get one that does CarPlay, but this works for now.

I also threw in a Uniden 520XL and a Wilson Little Wil, so I can bullshit with my camping crew on the road. We usually convoy. I’ve gotten about 4mi on a radio check, if anyone cares.

Never mind the RCAs. That’s for Phase 2 of the radio upgrades. I need some Shoe-goo or something for the top of the Double DIN trim piece. It fits like crap.

I'm calling shenanigans on the mpg, but subbing because cc duallies are cool. Where'd you see the 13,500# tow rating? Thought it was 11k with a 5er/goose and 10k with a hitch. Even so, they do more.

Thanks fellas, I love my new rig!

I thought that’s what the owners manual said, but I could be wrong on the tow ratings. That mpg is legit. 12 and change on 95, a little better then 13 on 301, around Baltimore and DC.

My diesel saw 16 mpg empty. Now it's 13 but 4k in the bed. I'll take it! Looking forward to what you'll do. And I like the Sirius idea. Hummmmmmm

Check again and let us know. I'm less about being right and more about being accurate.

Unless the odometer is off, those are the numbers. I can’t be bothered to check a map for miles between fuel stops. I kept it around 65, and just enjoyed the ride...wasn’t in a rush.

Speaking of odometers, anyone got a fix out there for a stuck trip meter? Mine is caught at 1.9. It tries to roll to 2.0, but just clicks. I was thinking Escalade cluster would be the fix, but then my odometer will be off.
