Does he have the carbon fiber (or whatever) synchros, or is he suing brass/bronze? I didn't think parts were easy to come by for the NV4500?

Most likely brass ones and for the early nv4500 like mine has it's hard to get the parts for it but he called around and found some he already ordered parts today I requested brass synchros

I know bronze are harder and take abuse better but I myself have never wore out brass ones my step dad rebuilt his sm465 when I was 13 and we beat on that old farm truck daily a d when wood season came around that 3 quarter ton with 1 ton springs and 4.56 locker front and rear was loaded level with the roof of the cab and a home made 16 ft trailer 4 ft front to back side to side never went over 50mph but you could pull the empire state building with that truck

Did you request the 5th gear fix also? I believe its just a different output shaft with longer splines.

looking forward to pics!! I just picked up an external slave 1995 nv4500 that I'll be swapping in my 93 this summer :)

I can't wait to see these pictures. How did you tear it up?

The good ole' NV4500. My dad's friend bought a 93 k2500 brand new in Anchorage. He put a plow on it in the late 90s. My dad bought it in 2007, and I drove it towing a lawn trailer 5 days per week, and plowed with it in the winters. I beat the P.I.S.S. out of that truck. The only thing we ever had to do was a few clutches over the 10 years that we had it. The truck had 305k when we sold it to a family friend, who got T boned and it was totaled at 320k. The trans and engine was never opened up for any major repairs. That was one hell of a truck. It didn't have any balls in any gear other than low, but I sure did take it to it's limits plowing. I still wish I plowed snow with a manual. No waiting for the truck to stop before shifting into the opposite gear, and getting it unstuck was way easier with being able to rock it.

He said he was going to fix any factory flaws but at 330k+miles I never had a problem from 5th.

Well when I bought the truck with 320k from a salvage yard she had a brand new front end ball joints axles tie rods the works all I had to do was put a hub assembly in the left side.. then my pride got the best of me. The guy who taught me alot and let me work in his shop told me "you can't grab gears in the nv4500... its impossible "... well starting in low break torquing shift to first let off break hit second started moving power shifted to third and right before the power fell off I power shifted to 4th (od) and chirped the tires. That's when it started going out eventually lost third completely thought I lost second. Thought I would hunt to find second found it went to shift to 4th and make it home and park it... it stayed in second . It binded up pulled it back to neutral and it was still second gear so I pulled over and locked it in 4 low and drove home slow as ****.

Wow. Sounds like you put her through the ringer, but I guess at 320k, ya can't complain too much about it. I would get a good 2 second chirp from low-granny pretty often, but I never really did anything past that because the old tired 350 just didn't have the balls, so it wasn't even fun. lol be sure to post those pics.

Wow, you could teach a class 'how to blow up transmissions 101' lol

When you say power shifting, do you mean clutch-less shifting?
