I've got mine mounted to my bumper next to the receiver hole; I really never liked the recommended mounting location, I'd be scared of dragging it off or catching it on something.

I used to have something like that, but it was all wires, and no plug. You may have the wires tucked up in your wiring harness already, and my not really need that 4-way connector.

I do like the plugs that have the wires epoxied in.

I was actually thinking about flush mounting it in my bumper. Anyone tried or done that? I know the bumper towards the bottom is rolled a littl but I can make a spacer to keep the plug laying flat.

I've broken 2 of those exact plugs, the little door is super flimsy and just snaps off. I'm actually in the market for a beefier replacement. The plug on my 1500 is just left of the hitch, a bit off center but out of harm's way. The dually has the superhitch so it's much closer to center, bolted to a tab just left of the receiver tube hole and protected by the chain hooks.

Check local laws about license plate lights. If you can get away with just 1 take the second one out and make the hole bigger and mount it there. Similar to how the newer chevy truck trailer socket mounts.

Yup, that's what I did on mine.

I should have checked my state's laws first though. But it looks like I might be okay. It just says that there needs to be a lamp there shining white light on the plate, and that the plate must be clearly legible from 50 feet away. I'll check it again after it gets dark, and if the single light is too dim to illuminate the whole plate, I'll try replacing the bulb with a LED.

I have considered doing that, but with a 4 wire connector... 4-wires is all I ever use. That looks great. I kind of got tired of the extra bracket hanging down.
