Howdy Austin!

Here's a live update. Just set the engine almost in place. It's in the mounts but now I'm messing with mating the engine and trans as we speak. It's not easy by yourself for sure!

I'm sure Cameron's neighbors would love it if you just brought the 3500HD down and set it on the side of the street.

Give you guys all an update!

I did get it in not too long after that post, lots of finesse along with wedging the little plate thing between the trans and engine but I got it all together.

Monday was a hectic day. I get home to find out the bearings in Cameron's chinese HX35 seized the turbo up so now I couldn't drive that truck, and then he gets home to find out the engine in his honda has rod knock so the pressure to finish my truck was on.

I ended up freeing the turbo up and I needed to go get coolant and oil for my truck to try making it run sunday night, so we took the 6.5 to walmart so I could get what I needed. Here's where the night went even more downhill. The security at the walmart here is crazy so at the exit they needed to scan my receipt and item which took forever because the guy couldn't figure it out, get out to the truck, and find out we didn't have keys because they were on my keyring back at the house. So now we had to call our buddy Lucas to bring us my keys (truck doesn't need a key to start so that's why we both spaced it) and we go to this burger place (called foodruckers or something like that) and the time is 9:03pm, to find out they closed at 9pm. Just our luck. We go to Round Table and order food and wait there.

Later on we get back to working on my truck, and stayed up until 5am or so but it did run and had a gnarly injector o ring leak. Cameron fixed this by grabbing another o ring from a different mopar injector he had so I lucked out. Truck also had an exhaust leak but at this point I called it a night and we both called in sick for work.

Tuesday night I go to autozone and buy OE style exhaust manifold gaskets and replace them on the passenger side since the header gasket I put on blew out. Everything went well so I put 30 miles on the truck and got home around 1:30am. I drove the truck to work on Wednesday and everything seemed well, or so I thought.

On the way home from work I had a lake of coolant on my passenger floorboard and all under the hood, so I spent all night replacing the hose and using silicone and two hose clamps to make sure it wasn't leaking at all, again getting home around 1:30am from my test drive and I noticed at the end my driver side exhaust manifold blew out and was only getting worse. At least no more coolant leaks!

Thursday driving home from work was pretty bad with that gnarly exhaust leak and it was also leaking fuel pretty bad. Spent my night replacing the driver side exhaust manifold and also taking an o ring from one of camerons injectors to make it stop leaking (eventually I'll put in all new o rings), and went to bed also around 1:30am.

Drove it friday and all weekend with no issues or leaks so now it's time to fix the little stuff! What a nightmare but at lease the big stuff is over. The exhaust gaskets could have just been junk they looked like old NOS and the plastic was cracked so maybe the elements broke them down a bit.

In the middle of all this my iPhone 7 finally died so I had to jump to my emergency iPhone 5s I keep in the glove box, and on Friday I received my new Galaxy S9, new to the android stuff and I definitely like it. Looking back I didn't take as many photos as I wanted, but then again I was focused on my truck!

I've been slacking with updates lately!

I'll start out with the Dodge then I have some GMT400 updates for yall.

I've done a bit with the Dodge and it's finally starting to become what I want and I still have more I'd like to do but that will be a thing I do over time. The truck has been doing good and I have put over two thousand miles on it in a month holy cow. I have two trips to San Luis Obispo coming up this month too so I have another 1,000 mile trip this month. Seems like I drive a ton.

I've done a few little things, I put the winch back on, got the A/C recharged, had the front windows tinted to 20% which matches the 18% on the factory rear doors, blacked out the gap between the windows, went over the plastics with the Armor All stuff (which actually worked better than I expected), and also ended up with a powder coated black stock rear bumper. Overall the truck is starting to look a bit better, I do want to mount a roof rack and ditch the light bar. I actually just finished replacing a u joint in the front axle and that sucked a ton but I'm hopeful that the passenger side goes a little smoother.

GMT400 updates!

So my roommate Cameron, his truck went down due to the turbo failing so he just installed a new cartridge in the turbo and it's been happy at 12psi. We drove it around yesterday and today he started the 5 speed swap, removed the dash and installed the pedal. He also removed the entire wiring harness and is in the middle of stripping it down to bare minimum wiring and being able to ditch the computer behind the glove box.

We drove up to Magila which is just barely north of Paradise (the site of the recent Camp Fire) and oh my goodness the damage. It was very sad to see. Anyway we went up here to pick up an NV4500 4x4 transmission for $700 for Cameron's diesel. The fire was within 200 yards of this guys house where we grabbed the transmission!

And then for me, my friend Tyler picked up a 1988 RCLB "K3500" Silverado with a 454/th400 and wanted a nv4500 for it, so I traded him across the nv4500 from my 94 c2500 and now I own his 1991 K1500 ECSB with the odd options and a 4.3/5LM60. Plans are to drive up sometime this summer, put a new 4.3 in it, bring it back down and make it a project truck. I would like to use my LM7 engine and LS swap that truck when the time arises!

Current photos of my new thing, I'll be excited to go grab it. It drove really nice too and I feel it's worthy of doing what I want to do with it. I told Tyler if he were ever to get rid of it I better be the first one on that list lol

And in addition, I sold the green truck for $500 sans light bar and bumper. The kid wanted it super bad so I was like whatever. Seems like he loves the thing and is doing all the work to repair the front end so good on him! I ate a ton of money on that truck but on the plus side it's gone.

The PO of my Caltrans 3500HD sent me some photos that popped up in his snapchat one year memory thing, so here they are. I still need to fix that damn truck too! I'm 5 hours away from home with what seems like a hundred projects laying around still!!

Another little update with the 5 speed progression, we removed the entire dash from his truck so he could fix some wiring and strip out anything requiring the computer (also did this with the engine harness) as now the truck is fully mechanical, added the third pedal, cut the hole in the floor, and last night our friend Lucas came over and we pulled the 4L80e out of the truck (which we also found out to be a GM Goodwrench reman that was installed in the truck at some point within the 165k on the truck). Nothing was done with the truck today but we plan to have it running and driving by Monday.

So you may laugh at the construction sign but on this strip of road that isn't very long everyone uses it as a race track and it is really hard to work on any of your own stuff outside. When I did my hemi engine swap I couldn't tell you the number of times I have almost been hit or always careful rolling out from underneath the truck. But this was the first time the sign was brought out and it actually works pretty dang good! Everyone legitimately slowed down.

Glad to see blue on the road again
What's the plans with the new addition to the driveway

Thank you! The dodge has been doing okay so far and I am happy to finally get over the hump of everything big that it needed and work on little tiny things and make it a little bit better.

Honestly, I have so many ideas in my head but what I'm thinking now is that I want to repaint it Caltrans Orange, give it a truck number of 1991150053 for 1991 K1500 5.3L (in the future give it my LS, for the meantime I'll just run another 4.3), put on some black bumpers, put on some reflective orange/black safety tape, slow for the cone zone sticker on the bumper, white delta toolbox, safety spinny light thing on a bracket that comes up from the bed, GMC SL work truck grille, tinted windows, and I think that's about it! Mainly what looks like a normal ol Caltrans truck but has some power. All I want people to think is that I bought a Caltrans truck and tinted the windows.

I love this idea lol and nobody would know what I had lol

Also tempted to not run my fancy bumper and make a tube bumper thing like this to be an appropriate clone
