And what happened to 3500HD crew!!!!

Probably something I'll end up never doing. I kind of left on bad terms but he wasn't paying me well enough and I was driving 60 miles each day in a gas hog that gets 10mpg so it seemed like I was making no money and had to stop doing that. I still have my 12 valve there too! Whenever I go back up to Susanville I'll try talking about it, I just wish I had my own house to keep my dang project and be able to actually work on it.

You kno I've got room to park that thing over here;). Gotta do what's best, driving that much in your own rig and not being paid for it sucks, I kno cause lately I've been doing same thing.
Hows living down there going? How many of the trucks you have now

Psh! I think there is even more **** around the crew cab now I'll probably never be able to get it out. And driving so much blows! I really need to either get my c2500 going as a cheaper commuter or get a Honda. That would save me so much!

Living down in the Oakdale is okay, the job I have now sucks but at least it's full time and I got it pretty quick. There have been LEO jobs I'm applying for down here in San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties so we will see. I moved in with a friend and I most definitely want to get a place of my own soon but the job thing is still up in the air so I'm waiting until I have an actual decent job to finally start looking into houses and whatnot. I still have everything up in Susanville but the only thing I have with me here is the Dodge. All I really want in addition to the dodge for now is the c2500 RCLB 6.5/nv4500 truck!

Oh man how accurate this is! I was all cheerful for 2019 starting off as a decent year, and my truck started being moody like 5 hours before New Years and then losing the girl deal recently, so this year is just off to a **** start! Feels like nothing ever goes right or works out!

And thank you! I need to post a bit more since I have a lot I could say. What's cool about this thread is I can go back 10 years from now and read everything and see either how smart or stupid I was and how my writing style may have changed and it's evolved a bit like me!

So here's an update on the Dodge. Last post I finally had the engine out of the truck, and every day for this last week I had been pretty much spending my time just cleaning everything up and moving parts over to the new engine. This was due to waiting on parts to show up and also letting my roommate finish his work with the sandblasting on some of my parts.

This was spread out over a few days but I'll just post some before/after pictures of a few pieces. This is with a 50/50 mix of steel filings and sand. It was really awesome of Cameron to do these for me as they all look brand new. What we would do after is bake them at 300 degrees for 7-10 minutes and then spray them with clear coat engine enamel which gave them a bit of a darker grey that I actually really like. You can really see the color difference between the natural aluminum and the clear coat on the timing case cover.

That's just the valve covers, neither have been painted with enamel yet but you'll see that in the engine photo. Here is the timing cover which I have a few better photos of.

You can really see the color difference in that last photo. The pitting sucks but I think that is more of a casting thing than coolant eating at it because at 155k it looked the exact same.

So another little misstep with my engine, the new engine is from a 2wd truck so the oil filter has a little fitting that hangs straight down like a 2wd gmt400 oil filter. I needed to remove this fitting so I could run my 4wd oil filter adapter which angles it at a 45* angle.

Well what I should have really done was use two nuts and try twisting it out that way, but I'm still unsure how good that would have worked. I ended up grabbing the vice grips and it took over an hour with the acetylene torch trying to heat it up and eventually I did. I wish I didn't have to do this because I spent a long time doing so, and all the threads you see were what was up in the block that I twisted out, since I was pretty flush with the vice grips along with the bottom of the oil filter casting. Hack I know but I needed to get it off!

Next I found out I had an EGR engine, so the guy I got the new engine from actually sent me a crappy DIY aluminum EGR delete plate, which Cameron didn't like so he made a new one for me that turned out much better, I like it!

Then next up were exhaust manifolds, mine were really bad mainly from road debris, so Cameron did some magic and cleaned them up as best as he could. The passenger side ended up actually having a crack so he used some stainless rod and was able to patch it up for me. Not going to bother painting them but I really like how they turned out!

Then last night in a torrential downpour Cameron and I camped out under this tarp for a while mounting the oil pan gasket, oil pan, front timing cover, and a few little things. I had to get creative using what I had to give us a little shelter! They said it's supposed to rain all weekend but at the moment it's not raining at all so I'm lucky. I want to try dropping this engine in tonight after I finish a few more things.

I'll post a better pic later with the engine looking better under daylight but this was a shot from last night.

Howdy Austin!

Here's a live update. Just set the engine almost in place. It's in the mounts but now I'm messing with mating the engine and trans as we speak. It's not easy by yourself for sure!
