I just did cab corners and rockers and last summer to my 98. Order new cab corners and rockers remove the box and doors. The determine how much of the new panel you will use try to stay away from body lines. Also do not over lap you either need a stepper tool that indents the body a little bit so that your new panels mount flush or but weld NEVER OVER LAP. Also when your done your welding and the welds are ground down don't just applie bondo you will need to put on a skim coat of short strand fiberglass filler. After you applied that block it like you would bondo then apply your Bondo then Finnish with glaze after that 2k high build primer block that out you'll probably need three coats and blocked done each coat I use ever coat self etching then paint.I could send you a bunch of pictures that are basically step by step of how to do it and how to do it right. Also check out SWRNC diyautoschool on you tube.

This is a reasonable way to do it for a driver.

A lot depends on the replacement panels purchased. Some are designed to be a slip over and a sized a little large. Overlapping a slip on gives a little room for error for fitment but with butt welding the measuring and cuts become critical and the welding a little more difficult. These trucks were built with the rocker/door jamb as a uniside type assembly so either way something is going to have to be sectioned somewhere.

SWRNC diyautoschool is good for comedy but not for learning a proper repair.

I plan to fix the rockers and corners on my reg. cab 89 next spring.
I an using a new take off section from a Topkick cab.
I worked for a company that took new reg cab Topkicks and cut the back of the cab off
to make ext cab, four door and four door ext cabs out of them.
I was buying the cab backs, (A pilar cut) for $25 bucks and used a lot for rust repair.
My friend had the last one I plan to use on mine.
I would like to take some pics to help out members here when I do it.

I say bullshit sir. Pete does very nice quality work and does it right. Screw slip on panels either do it right the first time or just leave it alone. Nothing worse then jumping into a job someone else hacked up. Slip on panels never look right no matter how much bondo you use.

No bullshit, he is a hack. HE's a running joke amongst techs. His videos are used as what not to do in training classes.
Did I ever say anything about slip ons?

I disagree I've watched every video he has made all his builds start to finish. He has done some very nice car's and even couple nice old chev truck's. I've done alot of my side body work jobs off his tips and off his videos with great long lasting results. I did cab corners on a 90 GMC Sierra seven years ago and the truck still looks as good as the day I did them and I learned most of my skill from Pete at SWRNC so that's gotta say something.

Yes, he is. His shop has no work, he's packed up and left town, moved to Moab. That's one way to get away from the comebacks.

Just because the paint is pretty on the outside doesn't mean it was done right.
