All ive ever towed with my current GMT400 is a 2000 lbs hay bale with a 5500 lbs trailer. It didn't like to pull hills in 4th gear doing at 50. Poor old gal is getting tired after from what I can tell is 23 years of a hard life.

A few weeks back now I hauled a few derby cars with my buddies. The Buick was pretty heavy and had a bit too much tongue weight. (I'd rather have too much over too little). The cobalt was noticeably lighter but still a drag on the truck. Locked the transmission out of overdrive and let it eat. I have my front keys cranked about an inch higher so the squat was a bit more than normal. Not the nicest rig that I've towed with but it got the job done fine. Brakes stopped it pretty well even without trailer brakes. (Trailer had them but the truck doesn't have a controller). Wouldn't mind a 4L80e with a 6.0 or 5.3.

The real issue is the ramp door that forces them so far forward. My old open deck was the same way.
Yup. It was really bad when I had to haul my 1998 when I first bought it. Definitely was overloaded on the tongue. Not the best picture but it was an interesting and thankfully short ride home.
The 98 was as far back as it would go on a 20 ft trailer.

Ouch poor Chevy that is alot of squat! Those GMT900 1/2 tons must have jello for rear springs. I only thought my Titan was squated bad pulling my G-van on a heavy trailer.

You nailed it. It didnt have the heavy duty rear end in it though. My 98 probably would have sagged less under the same load. Different spring rates and different leaf packs.

This was one truck and trailer load for moving day.

The 400 was my late grandfather's truck. 1999 c3500, L29, 4:10s, and only 46k miles when that picture was taken. It's no race truck, but it sure does pull well when loaded.

The square body is the long term project that has been kicking around the circle of friends for 18+ years.
