I don't think an NV4500 would be a good choice. I've never driven one, but it's my understanding that it's not a sporty transmission.
I'm not looking for a sporty transmission, but something reliable, especially off highway.

Oh sorry, I was thinking it was a 2wd... I didn't realize until just now, it's a K1500, when I went back and looked at the original post again.

What do you think about the 12 bolt?
As far as I know, a 12 bolt would need modification to drop into a k1500, I think new shock mounts and spring perches. If you already have one, and a good welder, you could probably stick it in fairly easy, just need to cut and weld your old mounts onto the new axle.

the thing about the 14 bolt is that it will bolt right up as it's the axle on the heavy duty trucks.

Looking around, it appears that a 14sf from a Z71 is a direct swap, and I would be able to keep my 6-lug wheels. Does this sound like a good swap or is there something I'm missing?

If you are looking for a heavier axle, that would be a good ticket.

I'm no expert on 1/2 tons but I don't think the Z71 package includes a 14bsf axle... it's shocks and stickers.

If I've done my homework right, it seems that a Z71 that came from the factory with the towing package includes the 14bsf - I sure hope that's the case, but correct me if I'm wrong!

If not in a Z71, the 14 bolt is pretty easy to spot, you could nab one out of any 3/4 or one ton with one.
