I recently bought a 1998 K2500 with a shredded door tag. I am hoping someone can help me figure out the missing info. The glove box was replaced at some point because the VIN on the RPO codes sticker does not match the window tag, door tag, title, etc. I do not have the owners manual. I'm trying to figure out the GVWR and where the truck falls in the LD/HD realm of K2500s.

Here's everything I know:

Other than the 5.7, I'm unsure of what is original equipment and what's been swapped/replaced over the years. The truck is currently equipped with the following:
  • 8-lug, SF 14 bolt rear end with 4.10 gears
  • 5.7 Vortec w/ oil cooler
  • 4L80E w/ cooler
  • Vacuum boost brakes
DMV.org's VIN decoder tool brings up: Class 2G: 8,001 - 9,000 lb (3,629 - 4,082 kg)

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Should be an 8600# GVWR truck seeing how the rear axle is good to 6000#. The light 6 lug 2500s had a 4600# rating out back. Your VIN analysis seems to confirm this.

Being an 8600# K2500 and having a 6000# rear axle rating makes me wonder if the truck was originally equipped with a full floating 14 bolt instead of the 8-lug, semi floater it currently has. Would that be accurate or did the FF 14 bolt have an even higher GAWR?

Same GVWR as I recall. I have seen a 14BSF with 6k rating at the boneyard.

can these stickers be replaced? mine is worse than that one, and im planning to replace the doors soon too. To me the towing rating sticker is rather important information that aught to be present. I'll ask a deal parts guy when I get a chance but if someone has succeeded or failed I would love to know
