The transfer case in my 1999 K2500 Suburban with 7.4 liter big block just died. (mechanic said it blew a seal and overheated). I looked on an auto parts website and it showed several t-cases for my truck:

With manual shift
NP241C transfer case
NP243C transfer case
With electronic shift
261GM transfer case

The truck has the electronic dash buttons 2hi/4auto/4hi/4lo.

Which of these do I need to replace the unit? And could buying a used pick and pull yard transfer case save me any money? Any sources in northern Colorado (Greeley) where I could find one?

Thanks.

You would be looking for the NP246 if you want to retain the 4Auto, otherwise you can swap in an NP241 or NP243.. I believe the difference is the 241 is manual, and the 243 is electronic.
