The upper and lower halves are bolted together, so if you didn't unbolt them, then that explains things...

The way mine is, is perfect, I don't no how it worked out, but the truck doesn't run any hotter than it should either, the whole fan still blows at the radiator.

Nice write up, lots of info. Doesn't seem to be any kind of consistency for the need of a steering shaft extender or not.
