Hello and thanks for having me here!
As the title suggests, im in search of the perfect cam for my carburated 5.3 build.
First, ill be performing the swap in a 94 c1500 that will be getting the full prerunner treatment with longer/ wider control arms, shocks, springs, fiberglass and 35" tires. Currently i have 33s with a 4.10 geared semifloat 14bolt. The current 5.7 tbi and 4l60 trans are quite tired at 221k miles and less than 200 factory horsepower makes for a very slow truck! This is where the 5.3 comes in!
I have an 03 lm7 5.3 from a tahoe. My target for power is about 450hp (flywheel). Ill be using the Edelbrock performer ls2carb dual plane intake, msd 6ls 6010 ignition box and a 770 holley truck avenger. My choice for heads are the 799 or 243 castings over my 706's. This engine will be backed by a built up 700r4 with a manual valve body and functioning lock-up converter.
So with that being said, what cam should i be looking at to get the most out of my current setup? Looking for low to midrange power with a good idle but want a fast rev. Thanks for your help!

Or Ed Curtis. If you want to wring that much from a 5.3 you're going to be in the 230 degree range and likely over .600" of lift.

I realize this is a 2wd, and you desire to run a 700r4. Have you considered a 200r4?

2.74 to 1 first gear instead of the 3.06 of the 700r4, means less dramatic drop in RPM from 1st to 2nd gear change, and possibly quicker acceleration.

I have considered other transmission choices but i already have the 700r4 built up and ready to go.

200R4 wouldn't even be on the bottom of my list. T56 FTW.

My racejeep is a manual and so is my trophy-truggy. I want this truck to be auto but the trans i have has a manual valve-body that retains auto in 4th position but i can still bang 1-3 myself. Ill be installing this Winters Sidewinder 4speed gated shifter in a custom center console.
