So I thought I would remove my cat and sell it. I was thinking slightly better gas mileage, a small amount of power, and a little louder. I got a piece of 3” pipe with the ends swelled and buddy and I went at it. The cat came out just fine but after it hit the floor with a hollow sounding thud I knew I was going to be disappointed. You guessed it, one of the owners before me had emptied it out. No more mpg, no more power, no money in my pocket, and wasted me and my buddy’s time. It does sound a little smoother.

What setup is your exhaust in from front to back?

i.e. mine is:

stock muffler > cats > 2" > Y > 2.5" exit.

That will make a difference in power and mpg. Taking out the stock muffler and putting in the Y gave me +1.5 mpg in town.

you may free some up by not going with a single 3 and moving to a dual 2.5

I think that would kill the low end torque. It sounds good so I'm going to leave it alone and move on to something ells.
