Here is a trailer me and my grandpa built this summer. Started as some thick 4" c channel and 3/16 catwalk and two camper axles.

here is my trailer- started life out as a 24 foot house trailer that someone cut the back several feet off, and the "wings" off the deck- so it is approximately 15' long by 5'9" wide. I traded a garden tractor for it, rewired it, new lights etc...

It had some hand made oak planks on it when I got it, and the previous owner never moved the axle so the tongue weight was unbelievable. The planks loosened up one day while driving down the highway and I lost one, so I decided it needed some re-work...

My dad moved the axle forward, basically by unbolting it, moving the rear axle to the front position, cutting the rear spring mounts off the frame, and moving them forward and re-welding them on. then I took all the planks off, and bought some 16 foot PT 2x8's and bolted those all on, bolted some d-rings

Then later on I welded some sides on with some free angle iron I got.

Later still I bought some wheels and tires from a guy for $ 100 and this is how it looks now.

Homemade trailer I have for a couple years hauled countless trucks and garden tractor on it. Sold it for $50 less than I bought it for. Best trailer 8ve ever had so far

thz71, my trailers have paid for themselves hundreds of times over! I started with a 4x8 harbor freight job, used it to move into my house, haul tractors, and gear. Then traded that for an 8x8 galvanized sled trailer, used that for 3 years till I broke the axle, then got the big one I have now. Bigger is better- tows better, better tongue weight...
