Ok I'm seeing some red flags in ad.
1 It should have a D60 not s D50
2 it should have a Sterling rear axle not a D70
If the front axle is a d60 straight don't tell the seller he might up his price.

They didn't get those axles until 86, that's an 85. I wouldn't let that stop me, since the D60 bolts in, and it's so stupid wide, people don't want them for anything else anyway.

Although I'd really want an 87, with the best 6.9, a ZF5, and D60.

True, I see you're in the Bay area.. The alternative is no OD though lol. And those old IDI diesels are geared low, my last F350 had 4.56's and a C6. It's do 70 uphill all day with your foot on the floor lol.

True mid year 85 they got the d60 but I've also seen early 85s with D60s. I've also seen a 92 F-350 one owner with a d50 ttb do go figure.

Mistake
I would hold out for a Chevy since you know them better
I'm the opposite I know fords more than Chevys

Well, he told me that he has a truck+trailer so I will find out how much he would charge to take it up to Rohnert Park for me to my office. If he can do the whole thing for like $1k I might go for it.

It doesn't weigh 8500 lbs, that's the licensed weight. The slightly later HD's were 8,600 IIRC and the older ones like yours were 8,500 GVWR. Those trucks weigh in the 6-7K lb range. My '90 was 6,200 lbs with fuel and toolboxes loaded.
