Other than the obvious reasons why didn't you split it somewhere else to try to keep the full doors?

This was by far the easiest place to take a chunk out to make it fit the frame, which i'm assuming is the obvious reason? :D It didn't take me long to to at all, and this way I didn't have to mess with welding anthing else other than some small spots on the rockers and floor to put it back together. 0419171201a.jpg

Made some good progress on the drivetrain removal last night. Everything on the top side of the engine bay is ripped out, and the entire dash is removed. I had to do that to remove the wire harness. Out of all that, I must say the worst thing was trying to figure out what was holding in the dash frame, especially while being "slightly intoxicated" :drunk: I will say, the brake booster was held in the most retarded way i've ever seen. When I removed the 4 mounting nuts, it loosened up a plate on either side of the firewall, but the booster was still completely stuck. It was then pointed out that it was LOCKED IN, just like a fuel pump sending unit would be locked into a gas tank. :wtf: After several hammer hits to a pry bar, and one to my thumb, it came out. I might tinker more tonight, I want to drop the gas tank and use the gas for my other vehicles since it still has about 15 gallons in there.

Ok, Cadillacs are now my least favorite vehicle to part out. Tried to use a picker and pull the engine and trans out, but NoOoOoOoOo you can't do that! I had to drop the entire front subframe assembly just to get it out. I also spent a good hour trying to remove the gas tank, but failed. I couldn't even see the strap bolts, so I just cut the straps. Even with that, it still won't come out no matter how hard I pry on it. It seems like the rear diff needs to be dropped to get it out. Maybe i'll just drill a hole in it and get the gas out that way.

This thing is kicking my ass, but I finally got it apart. Engine is out and the front subframe is "back in" enough to roll around. I ended up having to loosen the whole rear subframe just to get the gas tank out.

Maybe with a lift it wouldn't have been so bad, I'm assuming that the whole subframe is supposed to be dropped first to get at the tank straps. Even with the subframe loose it was still caught up on the front of the diff and I still had to wrestle it a little to get it out.

Finally am done with parting this thing out. Managed to get it on the trailer with both subframes barely held in, then used the picker to lift it up enough to get them out. I told my daughter that when she's older i'll get her a nicer car than this one :D
