Apparently the issue I have is that the metal ring that is a part of the tank itself, the one that's bonded to the tank, is too rusty to clamp the lock ring tightly enough. My sending unit and lock ring are both brand new.
Also, there was only one place that had as tank within 1000 km's (according to car-part.com) and after talking to them on the phone, it turns out that tank was rotten in the same place too. I wonder if there's an epoxy, silicone, epoxy, etc... that can can be spread on it to seal it up... There's options, I just need the snow to melt and the weather to warm up. (No garage to work in.)
I find it very odd that nobody makes these tanks, and that no other GM tanks are similar.
