1996 was the first year the 3rd door option was available on 1/2 tons, it was an option was wasn't standard on any trim level, as I have a 96 Silverado trim 1/2 ton with no third door. Just looked at an LMC catalog and it only stated in the 1996 model that "third door optional". doesn't say about anything about it being on a specific trim level or being on 2500s/3500s

The PO owner of my ecsb must have hauled straw and seed corn around in the back. Seriously I found a ton of straw in there when I pulled the interior.

96 was the first year of 3rd door as stated and only an option on 1/2 ton trucks, the 3/4 and 1 ton didnt get the option for structural stability reasons, 3/4 and 1 ton trucks also didnt get the passenger airbag

As stated by a few others, it was first an option (1500s only) in 1996... A very expensive option, ~$2000! This is why I passed when I ordered my truck. I "believe" that it became standard on all 97's on. Anyone have a 97 or 98 extracab without the access door? Just curious...

'96 was the first year for the third door, it was only on one side though. It was also the first year for vortec 5.7 with the awesome spider injection system and the radio antenna with the twisted wire to decrease wind noise.
