Does anyone know if the stock original ball joints came with removable grease zerks? Mine are rusted shut and wont take anymore grease. Would I be able to remove the zerk and reinstall a threaded one into the same hole? I have a 187k on these and they are still good. If I cant Ill just replace them once they go bad but I would like to get them to last as long as I can.

Clean them off and see if they have a hex on them, if they do most likely you will be able to change them.

That many miles on them and they're not wore out? I didn't think that was possible. Our trucks eat ball joints, because most of us drive them like trucks on bad roads

Eh... I don't think they had zerk fittings at all. Zerk fittings cut their own threads, so just remove what you have and screw new ones in.

Try putting a thin rag over the zerk, then cram the grease gun onto the zerk fitting over the rag. I was taught this twenty-plus years ago, and it works about half the time.

I don't mean to come off as condescending. But make sure you're using the chuck on the grease gun. I see so many people struggle and end up breaking there tips because they don't use the chuck.

With the chuck tightened down it should have enough force to pop the zerk open.

LMAO - I've had guys working for me who didn't even know how to load a cartridge, let alone from a bulk drum even though they signed off on their work orders the job was done - it's called "pencil whipping"!:wtf:

I know the feeling. Found out I was just about the only person in my squad who knew how to pack and use a gun. Fixed that problem pretty quick. But damn, some people...
