The cheapo reman alt some one put on my truck crapped out on me tonight. I am thinking about installing a 140 amp alt. What size wire is suggested to upgrade the wire from the alt to the battery?. Im guessing I should make it atleast 8 gauge. Is this over kill or under kill?

AWG #2 is what I used form my big 3 upgrade, but I did a little more than 3, mine is 5 points all together, not just 3. I have a thread about it on here, some where.

What is the big 3 upgrade?
The 3 main wires in your electrical system.
Usually a larger wire from Alternator to battery. Larger wire from block to frame, and finally a larger wire from frame to body.

I mainly use 1/0 welding wire since I have a unlimited supply of short drops of it at the shop.

Like I said, I did a big 5 up grade. Mine has 4 negative wires and 1 positive with a fuse from the alt, back to the battery. Here are some videos, and pics of mine.
