I picked up this truck after the hounding the owner (a buddy from work) for the past 3 years. I got it cheap and it is exactly what I wanted. 4.3 V6, 4L60, 254,*** miles, all original for the most part, a perfect platform imo!

As purchased:

I have done some cleaning, mounted two BMW buckets with 2 sets of bench seat brackets, dyed the seats and most of the interior black. That aggie maroon has to go quickly.....

The truck was in serious need of a suspension rebuild, rims/tires, etc.

I snagged a set of MB Old School rims in 18x8 with Nitto NT420S 255/55R18. I've always loved the Torque Thrust series of rims and these have that look while being considerably more affordable, and discount tire does a military discount making them even cheaper! :p

Next was a full suspension rebuild, summit racing and rockauto to the rescue. I got a complete energy suspension bushing set, all new steering components (Moog), and a quick ratio Z86 steering box. I installed all of the front end parts last weekend (monday/tuesday for me) and got the truck aligned.

More suspension picks.....

I forgot to take picks of all cleaned and painted parts after reassembly, I was to excited to get it aligned and drive it!!! I'll try to remember to get picks the next time the front wheels are off.

So I have spent the last several months figuring out my game plan with the truck. While drivetrain is still in the air (LS, Big Block, Diesel swap???) the interior was driving me nuts. I ordered a new vinyl floor mat and there was surface rust in spots where the paint was chipped, etc. I also had to weld up about 30 holes in the floor and back of the cab from a previous owner's stereo equipment. I decided since I had to pull the seats out to install the mat, etc. I might as well pick my color and do the interior repaint and finish dyeing the plastic parts black. It has been a couple months of labor ( I don't like to half ass things). The color is 2009 Lexus Black Opal. I used PPG Shopline JAU single stage for the interior. The exterior will be BC/CC.

I went with the L31 Vortec crate motor. This is after prep and paint.

And the motor in the truck with lots odds and ends left to deal with.

I chose to go Gen 1 SBC because I know them well and I'm not looking to build a race truck. With a decent cam and a little headwork to the vortecs this motor will easily make 400HP. That is more than enough for a daily driver. I have Hedman Black Maxx Elite headers to install and I went with the 34" 3 core radiator for heavy duty trucks and have a dual electric fan setup with a derale adjustable controller. Hopefully this week I will finish buttoning the motor install up and get the truck running.

I kept as much of the stock wiring harness as possible in case I ever want to go back to TBI (not ever going to happen but you never know!) I am running the B&M remote TPS setup for a carb to keep the 4L60e that is in the truck. It will make swapping to a 4L80e in the future much easier.

More to come.....
