hey looking to upgrade the 8.5 ot of my suburban 4x4k1500... down the road I might be getting a good used 9 1/2 6lug axle assy. out of a heavy half ton. this way can keep my wheel until later date if I keep truck will got to 3/4 or 1 ton axles. but for now...... what is the strength of these axles, I have only had to rebuild one before,, done lots of the 8.5's.... any information would be cool thanks...

well found a 1/2 tone 6 bolt 9.5 14 bolt complete axle with drums and springs in a u-pull it yard today, going to get with them after xmas, to haggle a price, what Is a complete drum to drum with springs going for used these days.. o average.

That's a good upgrade. I put one in my half ton pickup. For the rear with complete brakes no springs set me back a whole $150. Previous owner already put in ld2500 springs

I put the 6 lug 14 bolt axles in a 02 14 bolt that had 8 lug relocated the spring perches and shock mounts. that way I can have disc in the rear

There are few kits available to convert the 8 lug rear to disc. I bought the complete kit for $350
