1/2 or 3/4 ton?
Some folks say they can run 285s with no modifications, some say that have to max out the torsion bars and trim the hell out of the bumper and fenders so they don't rub.

I'm middle of the road, I had to crank up 1 inch and trim the bumper corners, and inner fender lips on my 96 K2500.
Seeing as how I'm gonna assume your truck is a 1/2 ton from the Z71 in your name; so you'll probably need to crank up an inch and trim, or crank 2" and throw a block in the rear. Someone else can chime in as well with probably a better explanation.

I ran 285/75/R16s on factory wheels on my K1500 Suburban for quite a while. Cranked about 2" in the front, no trimming. Worked fine with no rubbing.

I'm running 285s stock with no rubbing and only turned the torsion bars a little because I hate the front being lower than the rear.

I just put 285/75r16 on a 0 offset american racing rim on my 98 1500 today and it fits good just rubs a bit on the mudflap. No lift. No t bar crank. I'm going to crank them an inch or so and get the clearance so I can do tight turns without rubbing

"or crank 2" and throw a block in the rear". This is exactly what my 94 Z71 has with 285/75/16. No trimming but my left front tire barley rubs when turning hard left parking lot turns.

I don't get it. Everyone complains about having to trim, yada, yada, yada. I'm on GMT400 #5 and have NEVER had to trim for 285/75R16s. Now, in my case, I pretty much always run some kind of all terrain, which may make a difference over a mud terrain and I usually turn the t-bars up just enough to level the truck based on wheel arch height. That should be all you need.

I have 285's on stock steel wheels. Only slight rub with wheels cranked and suspension flexed. Truck is 99' K2500 suburban with 6.5L. Stock suspension. Those tires came with the truck. When I replace them I'mm downsize to 265's
