Thought I would add mine to the list. Mods will come, but didn't feel like it was worthy of a "build thread".

History

Bought brand new in August '99 by my uncle. Used to haul hay/straw until 2015 when he retired. Was stored most winters, which saved it from Wisconsin.

Plans
  • New tires. Rims and summer vs winter tires next year.
  • Sort out running issues
  • Add Tow mirrors
  • New headlights and tail lights
  • New carpet
  • Backup camera
  • New shocks
  • Possibly brush guard
  • Possibly Diesel bumper with light mod

Looks like a wonderful truck! I love the stainless rockers on it. Are you getting some aluminum rims for the summer months?

Thanks. Must be a reflection in the paint, the rockers are body color.

The tires (first photo) were shot when I got the truck. Put new (second photo) Firestone Destinations on it the first week I had it. Those will carry my through this year, and looking at getting custom rims/tires next spring. Then these will be strictly winter tires.

I've been saving off all of the GMT400 photos I find with custom rims to make a decision. I use this for some heavy towing, so I am cautious about aluminum rims with too little material for spokes. Open to suggestions. It is, and will likely remain, stock height. Not sure what the maximum dimension I can get away with is.

Oh, lol, I thought you had stainless, must just be the reflection.

I have GMT800 style rims on my truck, I've pulled a heavy car before and it didn't hurt it one bit. Can't remember what brand they are, got'em from Jegs, but they are close to OE. The GMT800 style rims looks great on these trucks, imo.

That truck looks like it's in good condition. What running issues are you having? I have a 2000 3500 cclb

So here is an update on all the repairs so far:

  • Firestone Destination Tires
  • Alignment
  • Fan clutch
  • Pullies
  • Tensioner
  • Belt
  • Plugs and wires
  • Fuel pump
  • Fuel filter
  • MAF sensor
  • TPS sensor
  • Upstream and downstream sensors
Runs like a stabbed rat now - for a 8000lbs Crew Cab. In the area of $3K in repairs.

Optional things done:
  • Wireless Backup Camera

Cosmetically I think it needs a more modern look. Thinking of:
  • Update headlights and tail lights
  • Fender Flares
  • Tow Mirrors
  • (2019) Rims and summer tires

I'll have to get some better photos to post.
