I purchased my truck over a year ago and saw a button under the dash while cleaning the carpets. It's a welded tab to the bar. I figured it was aftermarket. I've been having ac problems (air only blows from floor vents) and watched a video where I saw someone too had that button. If anyone has an idea what's going on with my ac that would be nice too. Anyways, now seeing that button again, I assume it's factory. Which only begs the question, what in the world is it for?? I will attatch an image. This image is from the video, I believe my button is black and it has a single black wire leading out of the back of it. Thanks!

Mine (1998) looks like the one in your photo, just has a bolt there.

As for your a/c issue, the damper that controls the air distribution (floor-panel-defrost) is controlled by the actuator to the right of the gas pedal. See if any of the linkage has popped off. There's also a round dial (position indicator) with a notch in it on the actuator. See if it turns when you select the position on the control panel.

So I completely dropped the ball on that. The button is actually to the left of the bolt. Secondly, there are two wires coming from it, not one. The second picture included shows the one wire ground to the bar however I can't chase the other one without getting into the dash. Any ideas? Thanks for the help on the ac. Greatly appreciated.

My Heat/AC was doing the same thing, it was the mode actuator as stated above. Button could be for anything from alarm system to sound system to auxiliary lights. See if it's getting power with the ignition on, if it isn't, disconnect the ground and see what happens after driving around for a while. If it's wired to something you need, it's easy enough to reconnect.
