Newbie
This photo book will try to show the frame replacement of my 1998 Chevrolet K1500 Cheyenne. I bought this truck new, and received it Christmas Eve, 1997.
At that time, I said to myself, I would not buy another new truck in my lifetime. My wife yelled at me for buying it, but it turned out the truck came in handy when the girls went to college and for other tasks. She began to like having it around.
I tried to take care of it, washing the dirt and mud off of it, especially the underneath. I only put about 5000 miles on it every year, using it mostly to go deer hunting in NY and to the local stores when required. In 2013, the cab mounts rusted off, and the frame was showing signs of rust-through. You can see these photos in the next few pages. The frame finally got so bad, it was unsafe to drive and I took it off the road. The truck only had 79392 miles on it.
I hope you enjoy this photographic adventure I undertook. It did take over four months to complete, and there are still maintenance items I need to finish. I now know every nut, bolt, and part on it.
I have about $4500 in it, $3200 in parts, $700 in hardware and miscellaneous items, and $600 in outside vendor costs. I also bought new tools, which will not be included on the total dollar amount. Much cheaper than a new $45000 pickup!!
NO, I would not do it again! Too old!
