Last I checked I’ve been getting around 8 mpg. Stock height with 265s, 4:10s, Vortec 350. MPG is just daily driving usage. I didn’t think I’d be getting this bad, lol. To be expected with a big ol 3/4 ton.

I would be checking to make sure all your sensors are good, brakes aren't dragging, etc. 7.5 seems awful for just daily driving, unless your 20 minute commute is 100% stop and go? How many miles are in this commute?

My truck averages 12-13 dailying (12 miles highway - 3 miles city/stop and go) during the warmer months, winter is a bit worse. This is if I drive it nice, if I decide I want to drive aggressively I'll probably drop into the mid 11s.

It's about 12 miles of highway driving, very little stop and go.

You said brakes, that got me thinking on that, I will have to check my brakes when I do my tire rotation. I kind of thought the truck was a little slow. All of my sensors are good, I'm thinking it's my brakes.

Thanks for the help!

Clean and lube the caliper slide pins. Often overlooked and can cause a ton of drag. I also used synthetic wheel bearing grease and repacked the front bearings.

Can you confirm you AFR?

2 items of note.

My hightop 92 G20 van 350/700r4 with 3.08s is 10-12 city but 18 freeway A lot of wind resistance but weighs in @6k lbs. Just a point of reference.

2nd is just a tune story. My 84 s10 blazer 2.8 V6 and. 5spd 3.73s. Motor got replaced still got 8 to 10. Didn't pass smog found out a bad venturi carb. Slapped on a new carb and went to 16/21 and being 16 years old you know I was full throttle. I loved the extra power and way better mpg

My 97 K2500 6.5L L65, 4L80E, 14BFF @ 3.73 gears
I average 16mpg with mostly 'city' style driving, and long haul with zero load I'll pull off 20mpg. Lowest I've ever clocked was a long haul with a 20' enclosed V-nose @14k lbs Jacksonville to Tampa: 14mpg.
I use Opti-Lube Diesel XPD religiously on every fill-up.

These numbers are with cruise set to 70mph, any faster than 70, mpg drops significantly

Epp my 6.5L with 4.56:1 and 4,000 pounds daily in the bed net me 12 to 14. At 70mph.plus its like 11mpg. Manual that had a .62 OD (aftermarket ) was 14 to 15.7. My other nv4500 got me 12 to 14.....i guess I need new rear gear

My 96 K2500 big block suburban gets 8.25 MPG pulling my triple axle enclosed trailer with 4.10's and 265/75-16's. Daily driving 50/50 city/highway it gets 10.75 MPG. On a long trip with the cruise set on 58 mph it has gotten 16.0 MPG. On the same trip fully loaded with a 4x8 enclosed U-haul it got 14 MPG at 63 MPH. Mileage has gone done a bit now that it has 12.50-17's (33" tall).

If you're hauling that kinda weight daily, I wouldn't want any smaller than 4.10s

Would rather have bigger gears and lighter weight diff fluid vs smaller gears. The smaller gears will be under a lot more stress and heavier fluid can only make up for so much of that.

Chnage your diff fluid to 80/90 and see what that gets ya. On the side of caution, have an infared thermometer to point and shoot at diff cover before and after fluid change to make sure they aren't drastically different under the same driving conditions.

My loaded long haul I mentioned I was able to get to ~75mph w/o OD, then while coasting poped column shifter into D and set cruise landed me right at 70 where I wanted. Only reason I did was cause route was so flat, otherwise would have stayed in 3 and just gobbled up fuel to save tranny the wear. It still probably took 3 miles to climb that high w/o flooring it. I didn't even try to exceed that speed, but doubt I could have. Certainly had ZERO passing power at that speed with that load my stock GM8 turbo haha. I got lucky in the fact that I only had to hit the brakes 1 or 2 times cause of traffic so didn't have to re-climb to that speed.

Pretty sure that trip is what did my leaf springs in though. She's always had the forward pitch where front it a bit lower than rear. Now she sits level with no load.
