it is chain driven mechanical, borg warner 4401

thank you for the info. i also have a 1983 x military 3/4 ton burb. originally was a 6.2 diesel, 24v, now is a 350tbi, 12v. factory military dana 60f, th400, 14 bolt ff, 4.56 gears. originally it had a 208 transfer case and i put it through some paces and ended up stretching the chain. so i have not had much faith in chain drive transfer cases since. i ended up putting a 205 in that burb as well.

with that kind of weight i could see 1480's, i run 1350's with my divorced case, they were good enough to hold up to 2000hp in a class 6 mud dragster weighing 2500 lbs. so they will hold up for me right now in my bogger as i am not anywhere near that power.......yet

is that the mudwasp truck you have listed in your posts? from the details sounds like a good rig

the class 6 was the draggin fly owned by a former co worker, the mudwasp is my bogger toy, my goal is 1400 hp when i build the new motor

from what i have been told and seen the bw case came in big trucks like f550s and such also, imo its not worth the hassel for what little you gain and the bw has lower ratio low range i believe also. mines been abused for 193,000 and it looks new inside with never a problem.

after some research it appears the 4401 uses the same chain as the 208, 241, 243. if thats the case i will likely just continue with my 205 investigation. i have a divorced ford 205. gonna take off the input and look at the bolt pattern area and see how difficult it would be to make the th400 adapter work with that case. then take the 205/th400 out of my 82 1ton and take the input shaft/gear and start looking at making it all work. i own a machine shop and a fab shop. i dont think it would be too hard.

that would suprise me if true, 1-ton bw and 1/2 ton np using the same chain.

208 not the same, a 208 uses weaker rocker pin links, the 241 and 4401 both use a 1.25 wide 36 link chain with the stronger round pins, the 241hd from a dodge and the bw4470 use a 1.50 wide chain with round pin and 36 link
