Real deciding factor is will you have to put more money into said 4k transmission or is it just a drop in kind of thing?

If it were me I would go with the transmission that is built for diesel versus the " universal" transmission. I say universal because how many things do people put it behind lol

I mean it would be a good used trans. So yeah it depends. I mean the allison is by far the more expensive option, in every fashion.

Nv4500 and call it a day. The programming is super simple too.

I actually love the NV4500 i often drive a 3500HD 454/NV4500, i just want this truck to be an automatic. I'm pretty stuck on the 4L80E/Allison right now. Expensive as they are.

That overdrive option speaks to me. Having six gears over four, I would bite the bullet and do it. The real question is what's going to hold up better to future mods?

Don't say you don't change anything lol

300 rpm doesn't sound like much but I can tell you that I only do 62 mph with the 6.5 because as soon as it goes over 2200 rpm it drinks the fuel. 300 rpm would allow 70 for me. I'm actually considering doing a gear change to 3.73's just to drop 200 rpm.

damnit you know me too well. lol

All my figures are based on a used allison with a minimal warranty. Obviously thats typically a 30 day guaranteed to work type thing. I'm pretty sure its a $2500 rebuild so you have to factor that into the grand scheme. I'm not trying to talk myself out of it, I know its the better option, thats just a tough pill to swallow haha

Oh yeah i know, even 300 rpm makes all the difference in the world. Crusing at 1900 vs 2200rpm on the highway is huge. I just want to be able to cruise at 75 at a comfortable RPM. because thats what the truck will be used for. Towing projects around, but mostly highway and driving out in the open.

Not going to be towing 15-20k or anything.

So then your choice is made....why are you still second guessing yourself....put the 4l80 out to pasture and get you an Allison

How do the lower gears compare on the Allison vs the 4L80E?

1800 at 70mph vs 2100 at 70 mph.

I know that part but I always say to myself, am I going to have to put more money into it later or will I be good. That's what you should look at. The 4l80 as good as it is, out of the box you have to upgrade it to handle the power of the Cummins. The Allison you don't. When you crank up the power on the Cummins you will have to rebuild the 4l80 again, where with the Allison you will have to build for the first time.

That's how I look at it. If you aren't modding and won't be heavy on the foot and won't tow get the 80. But if you are going to smash that pedal and smash it when you are towing, don't lie to yourself there's going to be that A-hole who makes you want to keep him out of your lane, than get the transmission built for a diesel out of the box.

Main thing is this...pay for it now or pay for it later....

Ps.
I suck at grammar....hooked on phonics didn't do **** for me..lol
