    2000 K3500 question

I had a 2000 7.4L parts truck that I used to swap into my truck. I can further confirm 2000 had two cats and only upstream O2 sensors.

    The Stupid Engine Questions Thread

All other things being equal, the 350 will be better on fuel, that's for sure. Double check that 88. 4L80E wasn't available in the trucks until '93, I think. Chances are the 88 has a TH400 3 speed (no OD) or someone has done some kind of swap. Assuming it's the 88 that has the 350, if it...

    454 engine swap

Is there a chance that the Gen5 engine has an aftermarket timing chain? If so, swapping back to the OEM style might help. Another idea is to just put a carbureted intake on, HEI ignition and just run it that way for a while until you can get the Gen6 rebuilt. I would think it’ll take some...

    2000 Crew Cab Dually “Waylon”

Except wouldn’t have the expense and effort into changing the springs, lifters, and studs. I’ve contemplated doing the same thing.

    2000 Crew Cab Dually “Waylon”

What was that like? I can’t imagine it got up and going very quickly? How’d it do once things got rolling? Most I’ve ever towed so far was just under 10k and was pleasantly surprised, but it was also flat ground.

Internal leaking intake manifold gasket, confirm my thought process

The differences between the two cooling systems is pretty subtle. I wonder if it’s just the fact that the gen VI big blocks make more mechanical use of the fuels energy rather than so much wasted to heat.

Got any pictures of what your head and manifold surfaces look like?

Internal leaking intake manifold gasket, confirm my thought process

@Supercharged111 has a whipple as well. You could ask what he’s done to make them hold up.

Internal leaking intake manifold gasket, confirm my thought process

So far so good. They’re all built like this. The fel pro was too long. This one fit better. Make sure you do something to fix up around the coolant ports. I filled the eroded parts with epoxy and smoothed it out before reinstalling the new gasket.

K2500 Lower Control Arm Bolt Removal

I just cut mine off on the way out and replaced them with new bolts. I put them back in backwards. No problems so far. This was about 6 years ago or so.

By idler arm bearing I meant the bracket, specifically for a K3500.

who are the go to steering/suspension parts now?

Thanks for the garden hose sprayer link! From my understanding AC Delco is just a parts sourcing entity. Which means you never know where they choose to source a part, it could be from the OEM or it could be some other aftermarket supplier. I think in general they do source medium to high...

who are the go to steering/suspension parts now?

I installed a Proforged idler arm and idler arm bearing not too long ago. My initial impression was good but when I yanked on the centerlink the other day to check it the idler bearing resulted in some vertical movement, kind of similar to the original 145k mile one I replaced. To be fair, the...

TBI gas tank in Vortec truck?

I'm not sure I follow. Although, I can say this thread made me second guess my need to change fuel tanks. Near as I can tell from RockAuto's website, on a 7.4L the fuel pump from 94-96 looks like this: It wasn't until '97 did it have a bucket and they look like this: When I did my TBI to...

L29 rebuild - give me ideas

Retarding the cam put the peak torque lower in the rpm band. Being a truck application I’m guessing it was their solution for making an engine with nice low end grunt.

Hand held scanner that reads live data?

I’m thinking about giving one a try. I just want to be able to have something to be able to see sensor values like trans temp and what not while I’m driving so if something acts up I can see what’s going on without having to always rely on the laptop.
