6.5TD - hunting airleaks and considering FTB mod

The carter lift pump is supposed to a good pump. I'm not sure how it does on bio/vegie though

    What headers for 7.4?

I went with gibson shorties, not the cheapest route though.

    Low Mile Vortec 454 swap

I'll try to post back. I am going with the Extreme Energy Cam I posted above, gibson headers, 4" diamond eye, and I am waiting on Justin at Blackbear to get back to me to figure out if a black box tune will be enough and what injectors will work best. If the exhaust is too loud, I have a...

New Crate Vortec L31 into 94' Sierra 4X4. Any tips for the newbie???

For a cam I was going to go with Comp Cams 249-08-530-8 Tri Power Extreme energy. http://www.compcams.com/Company/CC/cam-specs/Details.aspx?csid=1551&sb=0

Adding an external oil cooler to a 97 3500

I will look again tomorrow but I really think I only saw one port (with a plug) just above the the oil filter adapter.

6.5TD - hunting airleaks and considering FTB mod

AHHHH! One of those real heaters. That said... I'm affraid that might be where your air leak is coming from on the diesel side. The LP will pull fuel from that system too if there is a slight seep in the seals (path of least resistance). I'd look into some sort of fuel shut off valve that you...

6.5TD - hunting airleaks and considering FTB mod

The ftb isn't going to hurt anything. Quadstar offers a nice kit for that. My opinion on the set up is you need to push fuel through the heater, not pull it. If you change that and still have bubbles then you might have a couple pin holes in your pick up tube.

Adding an external oil cooler to a 97 3500

Are both ports supposed to be above the filter mount? My thoughts were to use an oil filter mount with oil cooler ports. I wouldn't mind doing a relocation so I could use a bigger filter and put the oil cooler in line maybe

Adding an external oil cooler to a 97 3500

Hydraulic hoses are cheap and last for ever if you make sure they don't rub. Common problem on 6.5's

Adding an external oil cooler to a 97 3500

my 97 k3500 does not have an oil cooler of any kind. It has an aftermarket aluminum radiator with internal and factory external trans cooler. The truck also has the ac pusher fan. Being its my tow rig I think it is fairly important to have an oil cooler. How/where could I easily add a cooler?

6.5TD - hunting airleaks and considering FTB mod

How are you determining that you have air leaks? The most common way is a clear hose on the return pump out of the IP. The clear plastic filters do hold a little air but as they get clogged they will push the air out and fill with diesel until the filter plugs. This is not enough air to really...

6.5TD - hunting airleaks and considering FTB mod

Not to run you off from this forum but you will get a lot more help with your 6.5 on thetruckstop.us. There are a lot of very knowledgeable 6.5 guys there and some have also dabbled in WVO (not many people with good experiences anywhere though) Hope to see you posting over there

    6.5 Diesel Exhaust on 454

I am doing the same exhaust set up with an Extreme Energy 01-412-08 Comp Cam (212/218) and black bear tune. I won't have a before and after comparison as my truck was on its last leg when I bought it and spun a rod bearing after 2k miles.

New Crate Vortec L31 into 94' Sierra 4X4. Any tips for the newbie???

Don't think I had ever heard of any of those issues. I thought all of the tbi stuff just bolted right up.

    MPG

It should be the same for a 4.3, 5.0, and 5.7. Nothing special: pull the fan, fan clutch, water pump, crank pulley, and then pull the timing cover.

Gibson Headers and 6.5 Diamond Eye Diesel Exhaust on 454

Spin on? Thats not the one I thought I clicked on, I saw a 32" long muffler earlier and its not the easiest to see everything on a phone. Still would like to know if there are any sound clips of this exhaust.

    MPG

My 95 K1500 305 w/ 3.42s got 16mpg city and 23 highway. I'd say you need a tune up, and clean up the tbi. I would plan on a full distributor and timing chain kit.

    Low Mile Vortec 454 swap

My 97 K3500's 155k mile 454 has had the main bearings scabbed together too many times. I am swapping in a low mile 454 (106k mile 00 take out). What cam can I get put in that will work well towing? It will have long tubes, new high flow cat, new injectors, and 411 blackbear ecm. Taking...

    94 C3500 LS Swap questions

Looking to ls swap my 94 C3500 NV4500 work truck since the 350 threw a rod. The truck does not have AC so that is one less thing to worry about. So I found a guy a couple hrs away that builds harnesses from scratch for $500. He also does the swaps his self if I was to go that route...
