    Paycheck again at 71?

Yeah, that's not even the appearance of "security" I like the key code locks where you have to punch a code to get in. Most are defeatable with a pocket knife, credit card, scrap of plastic sheet torn from a package.. Anyway my original reason for replying was just how odd that Ford engine...

    Steering column replacement videos

Check the factory service manual in regards to dealing with the clockspring. If you don't handle it properly, you can break it. It only "reels out" so far.. so you need to have the wheel positioned correctly and shaft connected so the wheel doesn't spin freely. Richard

    Slight knock?

I got the "Rolls Royce Quality" comment. Say what you will about them, because if you beat on them like they're a Chevy truck they will fall apart - and they require a team of high paid surgeons to keep them on the road - but I guarantee you they don't rattle like a diesel when you crank them...

    Rats... need a new part

Like Scoot said replace it with hose; just be sure it's emissions-rated or it will deteriorate quickly. Dorman makes a replacement PCV tube with the elbow on it, but the rubber is poor quality and doesn't last long. Not recommended. Richard

    Heavy Half?

Strangely enough, someone had swapped one onto my '94 3500HD. It was.. "correct" for the 6.5td truck but the guards and trim strip were incorrect for the Cheyenne trim level, for sure. It was beat.. and got junked, replaced with a smoothie "diesel" bumper from LMC. Hate to think what the...

    Interior metal door panel hardware

That one 10mm is likely loose or missing and the cause for the window coming out of the track. It's my #1 suspect anyway, have fixed a few people's trucks for this. If you're lucky it didn't manage to mangle the window regulator in the process. Richard

I'm sure they're somewhere in those RPO codes but I never bothered to look! Usually see them on Suburbans. Richard

Breaking yard etiquette. Discussion debate personal views please

I'd like to.. I sure miss it. But, finding the exact right set of circumstances is difficult. To find suitably sized shop space, sufficient land for inventory, livable office area, bathroom w/shower, and in the county (outside city limits) to avoid onerous regulations (especially living in a...

Breaking yard etiquette. Discussion debate personal views please

Eh, like termite says, there are accidents. I totally get that we're going after parts that end up breaking during removal.. I (and others) were speaking specifically about people that wreck stuff out of outright carelessness or even worse, apparent malice for whatever unknown reason (the...

1998 GMC c1500 sierra missing front and rear sway bar

Never came with a rear bar. Front, you'll want to replace. Easy from the boneyard. New end links will be your friend, just cut the old ones off. Might help to measure the length of them first because ordering them is a bit of a question mark with all the choices. Richard

    Door card insert Material change

Eh, it always made sense to me since in terms of older cars (50's, 60's, and probably older) the upholstered door panel is often backed by heavy cardboard-like material. "Door card" used in this context isn't difficult to understand. Richard

    Door card insert Material change

Since you have both "old" and "new" interior style trucks in your signature, mentioning which specific style of panel you're asking about should help. I haven't replaced the material on either style, but the construction is clearly different between them. Richard

    Interior light proplems

For the dash courtesy lights - if you manually push both switches (need a helper obviously) do they turn off? Sagging door hinges, or missing "buttons" (the small plastic inserts in the door panel) can cause a gap that prevents the switch from being pushed far enough to break contact. Dome and...

Interesting post on parts and machine work quality

Relevant to all areas of the motor vehicle hobby, IMO. From a FB page of a company called AZ AMC Restorations: "Due to the dwindling supply of quality machine shops and very poor quality aftermarket parts as well as a lack of people interested in learning the engine building and machine shop...

Breaking yard etiquette. Discussion debate personal views please

Maybe not necessarily so worried about things worth pennies to a large salvage yard, BUT, more to thinger's point that someone may have really needed that part and this was the only option their budget allowed. Why break something that someone else might use..? Richard

Gmc 6.5 1994 stanadyne Injection Pump

Full disclosure: I'm not a 6.5td guy and I have owned one and got rid of it, not a fan at all. However I do pay some limited attention to the goings-on with guys that do mess with them. For many years we've all been hearing that the "fix" for the electronic injection pump setup is to go to the...

I need mental help!!! What should I do?

Dropped ECLB's for the win! :) Sorry.. had to get that out of my system ;) Your '89 looks great! My opinions on the horsepower situation: 1. That 6.0/4L80E is probably your most direct option for more power. The 144K on the clock could be hit or miss at that point - it might be fine...

    Vortec intake manifold pitting

Sounds pretty good but I'd wonder if the JB expands/contracts readily with the aluminum so it won't end up cracking loose? Maybe it wouldn't matter since it's essentially sandwiched in there with the gasket and would likely remain until next disassembly. Richard

What to look at, for fixing lopey idle and running rich?

You can check that CTS with an ohmmeter. Easiest to do when the engine is stone cold at ambient temp, you would expect a reading that would match near that. Resistance value chart should be in the service manual but it's also been posted around the web a bit. Then of course once engine is...
