All this work to get it right and it's still a work in progress....What's next?

Just trying to brainstorm while laying bed this morning. I haven't looked at the transmission speed sensors yet. So my question is, if the transmission has a bad input or output speed sensor, would that possibly give me a false speed in the ECM? Since I am still getting a speed reading even...

All this work to get it right and it's still a work in progress....What's next?

I do think this tool does have the graphs. Never played with those. Just look for spikes or above average if it does the graphs? It probably is .350 - .400. It is an older MODIS and the screen is hard to see. It ran about 15 - 20 minutes to warm up. I would think that is long enough. ?? The...

All this work to get it right and it's still a work in progress....What's next?

I did see the multimeter set on volts test, but will have to look farther into the thread with a little more depth. I would love to have it running yesterday, but it's a "Tinker" project until it gets running right. I will also be going back thru the posts and making more notes. I already...

All this work to get it right and it's still a work in progress....What's next?

The link talks about the speedometer doing funny stuff and my speedometer works as it should. I replaced the cluster due to a faulty fuel gauge so it's a few mph off, but that's a different issue and not really concerning. But that was just an initial trial run after going thru the old girl...

All this work to get it right and it's still a work in progress....What's next?

I will check the TPS. That is code 22 which is one that is current. Since the Barometer seems to be working and somewhat accurate for elevation I'll keep trying to figure on what the codes are leading us to. I did unplug the VSS and the reading showed I was doing 11 mph at first but them...

All this work to get it right and it's still a work in progress....What's next?

I will do that test with the TPS and see what it reads. The Barometer seems to be accurate judging what you have stated. We are at 4250' elevation where I live. Right where you guessed (which I'm sure was an educated guess. ;) ) But I'll do the vacuum test and see what it reads. See if the...

All this work to get it right and it's still a work in progress....What's next?

OK, put the scan tool on it and here are most of the results at operating temp, at idle and in park. I see one issue is the vehicle speed. Here we go!!! Idle - 800 rpm O2 - bouncing between 350-400 Intergratr - 128 Open/closed loop - Open Exhaust O2 - bouncing between rich & lean TPS - .46 @...

Going to put the scan tool on it today. Maybe get a better insight as to what we are actually dealing with. I'll post the numbers later.

I'm not quite sure how the coolant leak, which I fixed, is giving me any ideas on the shifting issue with the 4L80e. :(

The QD for the heater core hose is between the TBI and the distributor and is threaded into the intake manifold. This video is the 5.7 but it is in almost the same location on the 7.4. Again, I just replaced it with a kings nipple and did away with the problematic QD.

All this work to get it right and it's still a work in progress....What's next?

I haven't done a bleed down test yet and I'm not planning on pulling the heads or the intake unless I have to. With mileage unknown, We shall see. I'll be tinkering with it a little today and I'll give it the steam treatment and do a full seafoam treatment and we'll see what kind of carbon comes...

All this work to get it right and it's still a work in progress....What's next?

You must be one of the lucky ones where the coolant hasn't started to leak yet. lol The connection I'm talking about is the coolant quick disconnect on the intake manifold, directly in front of the distributor which goes from the quick connect , to a metal line, to a rubber line. Do a YouTube...

All this work to get it right and it's still a work in progress....What's next?

    1. The fuel pump is new and is putting out 36 psi at any given point. This makes me question the pressure regulator. Maybe it is faulty? 2. I did verify the PCV, but have not vacuum tested the EGR yet. The timing was done at operating temp, the timing connector was disconnected. I do...

Hey guys and gals! OK, I have done so much to this truck and she still has a miss, problem shifting and really lacking power. 1991 454 TBI meshed with 4L80e transmission The motor: I'll start at the top. New AC Delco injectors New IAC TBI rebuild kit New vacuum hoses for the entire TBI set...

Where to get a VIN label?

I found a company which will print up a new label but they need a copy of the original. Does anyone have a K3500 with the 10,000 lb GVW rating that they can take a picture of their door sticker and send it to me? I will have it printed with my trucks VIN of course. Just need all the other...

Where to get a VIN label?

Good Morning Guys! I have this 1991 K3500, which is a tow truck. Where I live, part of the tow truck inspection is the GVW must be stated on the truck stickers somewhere. Here's my problem. The sticker on the door was painted over. So after a little research, I decided to try mineral spirits...

Can't find the right parts diagram or parts number. :(

Wrong!!! That spacer did NOT come with that kit. Only the gaskets that go below and above the spacer. No spacer is included with the kit from NAPA. Now we wait for parts to come in again.

Can't find the right parts diagram or parts number. :(

For some reason, My local NAPA had a hard time finding a kit for this TBI. After a little searching, I found the one for my truck. It does come with the part I need. Thanks guys. Just proper wording was needed. NAPA part CRB21801

Can't find the right parts diagram or parts number. :(

1991 K3500 with the 454 and 4L80e Cleaning up the TBI, installed new OEM injectors and noticed I have a spacer that is missing pieces. The part of the TBI that contains the injectors and pressure regulator had a spacer under it and allows the room needed away from the main body. Mine is...

Corrected title.... Original tachometer cluster in a 1991 K3500. Fuel gauge not working.

I figured the adjustment was on the column and would be pretty easy. Didn't think about putting it in OD for the adjustment but that makes perfect sense. Thanks for that tip. Slowly getting this thing ready to be on the road again. :) Now that the fuel gauge is done and fixed.... There are a...

This one is hooked up and moves with the shifter, BUT, it's way off the proper marks. lol I'll look into that later. ;)

Corrected title.... Original tachometer cluster in a 1991 K3500. Fuel gauge not working.

I'm fine using a GPS for a speedometer. My other truck is off and use the GPS for that one also. Fuel gauge is different though. If I leave my town, the next nearest gas station is 55 miles away (nearest Walmart is 120 miles, haha) and this is why my focus is on the fuel gauge working. I'm...

Corrected title.... Original tachometer cluster in a 1991 K3500. Fuel gauge not working.

I've been gone for 5 days and the cluster was in my UPS box when I got home. 2245 miles in 5 days and still had energy to put the cluster in. haha Thanks for all the replies but I've been doing this long enough to know one thing, and this includes ALL vehicle manufacturers. Don't assume a plug...
