    Manual HVAC control repair?

Does this mean all the button does is say "Hey, I'm requesting AC" and the PCM determines if the AC should be commanded on?

    Manual HVAC control repair?

Has anyone taken their HVAC controls off and looked to see what broke in them? I'm thinking maybe it's the dials, or possibly a capacitor like old computers (or the OG XBox). Not really wanting to spend upwards of $120 on a control panel for a truck I paid $450 for. I have a 97 K1500 in case...

Removing oil filter from the LS engine.

In my time as a Chevy tech, I used Matco MST60C to get them out, and never found a filter it couldn't take out. Of course, Matco doesn't make their own tools so it's probably so much cheaper to find who they get it from and get that one instead, but I don't know who makes it for them.

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

To anyone going the route I did and going header dump, just as a word of warning, leave at minimum 5" of exhaust tubing past the upstream O2 sensors. This helps prevent them from reading ambient air and saying you're running too lean.

    98 vortec backfiring

I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. I sure hope it is.

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

There's a special place in Hell for people like that. Can't count how many times I've read a forum post looking for an answer and it went dead for 10+ years with no fix listed

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

I was for a while, the timing marks on the new dizzy were off by a tooth. But now that it's fixed we're all good to go. O2s man, they're weird. Makes me wanna go carb and just say **** it

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

last update for anyone having this same issue. It ended up being both upstream O2s. Been driving it a lot hauling stuff and whatnot, and yeah it hasn't been acting up after I replaced the O2s. Word of advice, even if you don't have O2 codes, check what your upstream sensors are doing. Mine...

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

I can't even get the pipe that it's on off, much less the O2 itself :( Gonna replace headers/cats back to the muffler and let her chooch.

So, turns out the timing marks on the dizzy are incorrect, and I was putting it in a tooth off. After that, I got it as close as I could, then used my new scanner to set cam retard. Goofy truck for sure.

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

Ok, it seems to be the O2 sensors, but I cant get bank 2's off. All the nuts decided both to round off and rust weld themselves to the exhaust (understandable) and the O2 on bank 2 won't come out. I replaced bank 1's and it's running a lot better. Not perfect, but a whole lot better. I'll...

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

Alright, back at it like a bad habit. Replaced the CKP and the plugs (finally) and it got a lot better, but not perfect. I think the only sensors I haven't touched are the O2 sensors, and when I do those I'll check to see if the cats are clogged (hopefully today at work). Gonna also see about a...

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

I lied. Or, the truck lied. Something/someone lied. It's back on it's **** again. It's definitely gotten better, but misfiring under load again, and getting worse when it's warmed up.

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

So I replaced my intake plenum gaskets again finally, and it’s actually operating like a truck again (the spider injector seal was torn and stretched). It had positive manifold pressure before I replaced the gaskets. Since doing that, it’s ran super smooth, no hitches or hiccups at all. Thank...

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

I have a VORTEC motor, which means the cam position sensor is in the dizzy, but the coil + ICM is external of it, mounted to the passenger side of the intake. I replaced the spider (with FPR), fuel filter, and fuel pump. I can recheck my fuel pressure tomorrow when I go to work on my truck...

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

Alright, parts ordered. Plugs finally getting here today, along with another set of intake plenum gaskets. Spraying brake clean near the spider while running made the idle drop, along with spraying around the TB and one corner of the intake, right by the thermostat. Just gonna replace them all...

Need help with timing advance will not run with it hooked up can anyone explain why

I had a similar issue on my truck, though VORTEC, not TBI. Make sure your dizzy is stabbed properly. My new dizzy's timing marks were off by a tooth and caused the advance to be so far forward it wouldn't run if the cam position sensor was plugged in. It was a miracle it ran at all, tbh.

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

I did a coolant flush with some Dexcool and made sure it was filled up completely. I did find multiple vacuum leaks, mainly around the spider connector. Gonna fix those and see what's going on from there.

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

So I replaced the intake manifold gaskets, and put the dizzy in wrong (d'oh) After getting that sorted out, I have P1345 coming back, along with it not running at all if the cam position sensor is plugged in. I swapped out the old dizzy's cam position sensor, and same thing. Current codes are...

If it makes you feel better, I know my AEG family engines like the back of my hand, and I still seem to forget what years each one came out.

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

You mean the ICM and it's heatsink? It sits beside the coil on the passenger side of the engine, kinda between 6 and 8 but up top. I recently re-applied thermal paste thinking that was the issue, and no fix. Also cleaned up the mating point between it and the heatsink, making sure it's got a...

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

Update, found out one of the dizzy cap screw holes broke off, so the cap is kinda half assed on there. Gonna replace the dizzy with an aluminum body one with some new wires (my coworker told me the heat could be making the wires resistance go high enough to cause misfires, and that's why it's...

7.4 Vortec RPM Surge at Idle

Sounds almost like it's not getting enough air. How's the air filter?
  24. D

    Starting issue

This. Sounds like it's slow to build up fuel pressure, but once the fuel pressure is there, it holds fine. I'd check the wiring the mechanic did and see if they used too thin of a wire. Not enough current going to the pump == slower pressure build up speed.

1997 5.7 Misfire under load, bunch of parts replaced

Both LTFT's are either 9.4 or 9.8, I forget but they're not crazy, and they're equal. I haven't checked STFT's after clearing codes. I have. It's reading fine, but I cleaned the pins to the connector. Made sure not to actually touch the MAF itself with any chemicals, from fear of messing up...
