1997 K1500 Wont Start
It's not that uncommon for the fuel pump to fail on these trucks. Especially at that mileage. Like others have mentioned, turn the ignition on but don't start and listen for a "buzzing" sound coming from the rear. You should be able to hear it from the cabin for a couple of seconds.
