    Weird Check Engine Light Issue

Hi everyone, weird problem. Got a CE light earlier this week, pulled a code, and got a pending code P0157. But this equation isn't about the code, but the light behavior itself. The CE light came on for the pending code, and today, while driving, it went off. I scanned it, and now, it is a...

95 k1500 5.7 slight rough idle while stopped

Honestly, these trucks don't really idle smoothly. What you're describing as a "slight rough idle" may be completely normal. Mine has some slight but noticeable vibrations and idle speed variations when stopped. Despite what people think, V8 engines aren't inherently smooth.

    Weird starting problem

For sure, that's why I wasn't convinced that it was a bad battery. I replaced it anyway. New starter is in, so far so good. Seemed that it would act up after driving for a while. Something about heat and the starter solenoid didn't agree. Which is annoying because it's a less than a year old...

    Weird starting problem

Thanks, I did replace the battery just in case, although the voltage on the old battery measured 12.5V. Had the same failure today on thr new battery. The only thing that got it runing again was just waiting to cool. And it started up like nothing ever happened. Have a new starter on the way.

Thanks, every connection I found to check is tight. Starter as well.

Thank you, that's good to know. I wasn't sure how that system works.

    Weird starting problem

Actually, I spoke to a mechanic friend of mine, he said likely bad starter. It started right up when it cooled down. Sucks that it's a new Delco starter.

    Weird starting problem

Hi everyone, 1999 Suburban with a weird starting issue yesterday. Drove to Costco, parked, came back and tried to start. All dash lights came on appropriately, stereo (aftermarket with large screen) came on, but when turning the key to "start", silence. No starter solenoid click, no crank at...

    Upgrades for longevity

For parts that need to be reliable, I only use OEM. So generally Delco. By that, I mean parts that are crucial to you not ending up on the side of the road, and/or parts that are a pain in the ass to replace. Examples would be the fuel pump, the turn signal multifunction switch, alternator, AC...

    Upgrades for longevity

I will generally echo the others here. That said, outside of fluid and filter changes, I really don't see the need to go beyond by adding additional filters, pre-filters, etc. These engines are solid and known for well over 200k trouble free miles. It's all the other stuff that tends to go bad...

    Truck won't start, need suggestions.

Fuel pressure regulator is my guess. At least that's the problem I had on my 1999, and similar symptoms to yours. Basically was dumping fuel into 2 of the cylinders and oil had like a quart of gasoline in it.

Hmm, didn't think about that. That I can do pretty easily. Thanks.

    Another cruise control issue

Hi all, Need some advice regarding cruise control. I have a 1999 Suburban. Recently I took it on a long trip and had some long runs with no traffic where I could actually use the cruise. I noticed that it randomly cuts out. Could be going for a half hour, 10 mins, etc, completely random. But...

    A/C replacement parts?!

Honestly, it's stupid simple to recharge your own AC. Since you are able to pull a vacuum, I assume you have a set of manifold gauges. All you need are the little cans of R134a. And if you don't have the gauges, they are cheap at harbor freight or Amazon. I have the HF ones and they work...

    A/C replacement parts?!

I recently replaced the ac compressor, accumulator/dryer, orifice tube, and condenser. AC compressor was AC Delco (don't go with the cheap stuff on Amazon, its not a job that you want to do more than once), condenser was Denso, and accumulator/dryer was whatever rockauto sells. The aftermarket...

Engine knocks when ambient temps around freezing or below

Thank you, that's great to hear. I figured it was probably normal, or at least OK, but just wanted to make sure.

Engine knocks when ambient temps around freezing or below

Hi all, quick question. Have a 1999 Suburban with 185k miles. Runs very well, makes good power from what I can tell, but I only had this truck for around a year. Now that it's colder outside, I'm hearing a light knocking noise on initial engine startup in the morning. Lasts for about a minute...

    Cranks but won't start

One other thing that comes to mind. We have been neglecting the spark component of this, because we are assuming you have spark based on what you said earlier. But do you have spark on all 8 cylinders? And out of curiosity, your new plugs, how do they look? Are they wet by any chance?

    Cranks but won't start

If you have a harbor freight near you, they have fuel pressure testers that are not expensive. Or Amazon. Approach this systematically. Fuel pressure bad? You have your answer. Otherwise check power to injectors. And so on. Because otherwise we're just guessing.

    Cranks but won't start

Ok, I'm still leaning toward a fuel delivery problem. Can you do me a favor, check your oil and see if there is any gasoline in it. I had a similar problem you described and it was simply the fuel pressure regulator. It was basically dumping fuel into 2 of the cylinders, and I had like a quart...

    Cranks but won't start

I think you have to be a little more specific in regards to having "replaced the entire fuel system." Not sure what it means, what exactly you replaced, etc. You need spark, fuel, and compression/timing to make it go. You have spark (on all the cylinders???) and likely compression, so I'd guess...

Need those door jamb switch/contacts for the rear barn doors on a 1999 Suburban

Hey, absolutely. I don't even need pics. If it has the 5 contacts on the passenger side and the 2 contacts on the driver side (or just the passenger side, I have the drivers), I'll take it.
