Performance upgrades for 5.7

So before too long I'll be owning a 5.7 Vortec that came out of another truck that was wreaked. I don't want to just get it and slap it in real fast without doing some upgrades while it is out-and-about. I dont wanna blow a hole in my wallet but I do want to know what are some recommended...

Low pro tires

Looking for some "Meaty" low profile tires. Looking into some new wheels. 17x8's in the fronts and 17x9's. I'm not looking for those rubber bands, wanting something more "pro-street". Any Ideas?

Automatic Trans issue

I haven't looked into it much, but driving home today in my 97 v6 2wd, I heard a Snap noise, and all of the sudden I couldn't get out of 3rd gear (auto tranny) It wouldn't reach 4th gear but would go 3,2,1. Anybody ever encountered this?

Shuck Truck 97 Sierra
