    I would remove the bed if you have someone to help pick it up. You can also separate the housing on the 98 up and replace just the pump and it would be much cheaper.

    The cross pin bolt can be drilled and extracted by using a screw extractor,but unless you are very good at drilling and extracting I would just use a hammer and a big punch to drive the cross pin through the differential case and the you can remove the rest of the bolt hopefully with a pick/awl...

    I would check the pinion yoke and see if there is any play,as for the cross pin bolt I have used a punch to break the rest of the bolt. Is there any reason why the whine started?

    Sounds like the 3-4 clutch pack is toast.I have had this happen to me a couple of times on 4l60's and 4l60e's. Looks like it's time to rebuild or replace;if you replace you will need to find out if you have a 4l60 or 4l60e.You should have a 4l60e being a 93 model.

    Maybe the switch on the dash is for the front axle actuator(this is what locks the axle shaft for the front axle operation)if this is so you would have the option of 2wheel low.IIRC an air locker will have an air line running from a pump to the rear axle.

    Those two wires on top of the column are supposed to be hooked to the shift indicator,I dont know if the indicator is broken or not but it looks like it will need to be replaced.

    The tail shaft can be changed but you will have to disassemble some of the trans. If you were willing to change out the tail shaft and lock the TCC regulator valve in the valve body with a spring or do the"stake mod" I think that the transmission will work, but I would not go through that...
