TBI / ECM tuning options. Chip / Burn / etc.

Boostednw.com has taken over Moates. I have bought a TBI-Chip based parts over the last few months from them. No complaints here.

Back fire through intake when floored

Lucky! I have the spread bore edition of the performer. Unfortunately, the lack of injector shrouding came at the price of no coolant plenum passage.

Back fire through intake when floored

Hey everyone, I thought I’d give an update: This miss was due to fuel pooling in the intake manifold. Since vortec heads do not have an exhaust cross over, a passage has been added into to some intakes that help warm the hole in with coolant. The Edelbrock intake manifold that I bought did not...

@Erik the Awful do you have a picture of how you mounted the coil on your carb intake? Oem coil mount doesn’t line up with the bolt holes on my intake. Thanks!!

Back fire through intake when floored

Update: I advanced the distributor 4 degrees from factory yesterday and now it isn’t barking out the intake! However, now when I floor it, the RPM drops near to zero and stays there for a moment before RPM’s pick up. Sometimes a couple seconds. Am I on to something?

Back fire through intake when floored

My distributor was definitely rotated out a tooth. Just finished reinstalling in correct location and set timing to zero. Seems to be in a much better location (wires facing the back instead of aimed at driver side) However, the WOT misfire persists. Plugged in my timing light with the tan wire...

Back fire through intake when floored

Thanks for the suggestion! I have a brand new distributor installed and it was acting the same way with the old one. I’ll definitely investigate the new dizzy. Would a deep clean of the tbi improve the situation?

Do you know where I could find that in tuner pro? I've included the TPS and MAP data with the RPM drop.

I took a couple screen shots of idle and moderate speed 02 readouts. Thanks for having a peek!

Back fire through intake when floored

Thanks for the questions! Cam is the 8800. Plugs are routed the same way with the exception of the stock retainers. No egr but deleted on the chip. I did not set the gap on the plugs. Distributor is a Davis Unified. I do not have a AFPR but I slapped in a 14psi spring. The 02 sensor is an...

Back fire through intake when floored

It’s a Vortec intake. Would you recommend moving to a AFPR? I’m currently just using a 14 psi spring. 18PSI spring I originally was using was way too rich…

Back fire through intake when floored

Hey crew! Just finished putting together my gmt400 with Vortec Heads and Summit 8000 cam. Runs pretty awesome except I have a little hiccup. When the truck is in motion and I floor it, the RPM will drop and there is a back fire through the intake. I just replaced all the plug wires, spark...

    The "Mayne Queen"

Not sure what was done on the chip other than egr delete, fuel adjustments for the 18 psi fuel pressure spring and I’m not sure what he did for the cam but he made some adjustments around the cam as well. Intake is an Edelbrock 2116 vortec carb intake manifold. I’ve put on a tbi adapter and a...

    The "Mayne Queen"

Quick weekend Report: The Mayne Queen is running! It turns out the lash was too tight. I used one of the methods on the forum where you lift the rocker arm on the push rod side and tighten until the two make contact and then preload. Worked like a charm. I am getting a very high idle around the...

    The "Mayne Queen"

Hey guys, thought I'd throw out a quick update. I was able to get the truck to fire but I am running into problems and I am requesting help. I took me about a week to flash my chip as it needs to be erased by UV and it took several attempts. Once it was installed it was back to setting timing...

    Rebuilt Motor Backfiring No Start

MY guess is that it is not the rocker arms. If they were too tight, the engine would turn over easily and there would be no compression because all the valves would be open. Learned that the hard way. Quite scary to see happen! Happy I did not bend a rod!

    The "Mayne Queen"

Hey Sean, Buppy is proud but also concerned that his grandson has been taking so long! I think in the long run I will move into a 4 barrel set up. Until then I will run the TBI unless I run into some serious tunability issues. Hi from the Okanagan!

Thanks Eric, Don't worry. Most of the spending came from Brian's site haha. So far you saved me money on spiders, dog bones, and water bypasses!

    The "Mayne Queen"

Thank you! The choice was mainly because of simplicity reasons, as well as keeping the truck as close to original as possible. As for tuning, I have a mechanic that in town that flashes TBI chips luckily. All I really did on my side of tuning is put a 18PSI fuel spring in the TBI and do Ultimate...

    Drunkcanuks build...... finally!!!

Sorry to hear about your accident. I hope recovery is going smoothly. Truly an awful thing that happened. Hopefully it has given you a chance to study up one what you plan to do next on the build!

    Drunkcanuks build...... finally!!!

So you decided to go LS eh? Excited for you and this awesome build. Looking forward to comparing our builds once both of them are done. PS: there are tons of LS engines in BC and Alberta. You just have to be okay with pulling them out of a wrecked vehicle and losing a weekend. Good luck from one...

    The "Mayne Queen"

Three Month Update on the Mayne Queen Based on recommendations from people such as Eric the awful, and Brian at TBI Chips, I blew my budget out of the water at summit racing. This did not included the 500.00 CAD in coolant, oil, gaskets, fittings, and hoses required. It took nearly a month and a...
