    most likely your bars are worn out. there is always some difference though, but if you bottom out your adjustment and your not on the bump stops, then your tbars are worn out. i've got the ones off my blazer that i replaced w 1ton bars i'd let go for a benjamin franklin.

    i change all my erls at the 3k mark. and i buy whatever is on sale.... cause i'm cheap. never had a problem but i also check my erls regularly and keep the level in a good position and if it looks dirty, i change it before 3k. just an old habbit i suppose.

    15lb sledge will work. but you can fracture the head of the TB. if you do, i've got my old set i'll sell ya for $100. theyre in good shape but i went with 1ton bars when i put my lift in.

    i guess i didn't say that clear enough. the issue was the crumple zones. the area of the bumper that the force on the hitch will be absorbed by you vehicle is exactly where the bumper is mounted. yes the hitch sticks out past the bumper... however, the hitch and receiver are mounted to the frame...
