Wheel balancing beads “ Do they really help”?

Good question. Having the dots on either the inside or the out wouldn't make a difference as the imperfections in both the wheel & the rim run from side to side. I always run blackwalls out.

Wheel balancing beads “ Do they really help”?

Dots. Because it’s nearly impossible to manufacture a perfectly balanced, perfectly round tire, manufacturers identify any irregularities with red &/or yellow dots. The yellow dot on a tire indicates the point where the tire weighs the least. Usually directly across from where the cords of...

Really wish ppl would stop bringing me trucks with hydraulic fluid in trans

You're probably right. We had home delivery. 'Dairyland'. From way back when, when they still drove Divco's. The drivers hated that bagged stuff, so IIRC, the Co. was one of the first to give people a choice.

Really wish ppl would stop bringing me trucks with hydraulic fluid in trans

Only Ontario, Quebec & the Maritimes sells milk in bags. They tried that here in the west years ago. 1967-ish to the about mid-80's. It was all to do with Canada switching over to this euro-c0mmi3 metric B.S. in '75. "Do you know what the speed limit is along here, kid?" "Yes Sir Officer Sir...

...in paper 'cans'. Which had to be opened with a can opener 'cause if you tried to stab an oil spout into the lid, the sides would collapse. Used to buy this stuff by the case. Paper cans. Can opener. Oil spout. You young 'uns confused yet?

    Rear shocks

Nitro-drops. Nitro-slammers. The black B/T's. The white DJMs & the McGaughys. They're all just rebranded Doetsch shocks. Blechhh. None of them are anything special. Nothing more than short versions of an OEM shock with the same (yawn) stock performance characteristics. My '98's been low for...

    Valance Mounted Fog Lights

My experiences with the SS/ST/GT fog lights + valance. - The aftermarket valances are made from a lighter gauge but stiffer plastic. They're 'brittle'. Once had to pull my '98 out of a field. Parked for the day & it had...(arrghhh!) sunk past the sidewalls of the tires into really soft grass...

    Rear leaf spring shackle OEM?

Uh-Oh. An opinionated novel... I prefer a 2" drop spindle. Doesn't mess with any of the front end geometry. With those, the suspension is essentially still stock with the exception of the spindle being moved up 2". ...and a 2" drop spring. This spreads the drop over 2 components equally...

    Rear leaf spring shackle OEM?

The top of that shackles is almost touching the bed floor & the spring is in the top eye. That makes it a 2" drop. On a 4/6 drop, (stock shackles) the truck will still have a bit of a rake. To ride level, these trucks need a 3" drop from front to rear. That's why some guys drop their trucks 4/7...

    The Stupid Lowered Questions Thread

Fender lips are rolled. All the pointy bolt ends sticking out inside the fender well have been ground down. Not required. Just the OCD kicking in. Under hard suspension compression or when turning to the lock over things like speed bumps, the tires would rub the bottom rear of the fender...

First real test drive today, after V8 swap.

Never had a TBI vehicle. I've had more with carbs than EFI. Both BBC's & SBC's. Either/or, whenever I bought a vehicle, one of the first things I'd do is a good tune-up. Whatever the plug that was listed for them, I'd go 2 heat ranges colder. Installing a colder heat range plug will increase the...

In search of 454SS seats. help!!

I've only heard of this Co. Seems like they have a bunch of 400 stuff. Mostly pretty clean. They offer shipping, but their area code indicates Albany N.Y. How much to you? Could be $$$! These are reasonable. Electric driver's. Smokin' deal if that's for everything in the pic...

Iffff ya...squint... From 10' away. These. First gen Astro van. Recovered in red with close-to-OEM materials & the SS style inserts. But, fixed backrest. No recline mechanism. That's a bit of a mod, but it could be done. Or...bolt 'em to set of electric 6-way bases. Only those knowing...

How many different types of material are in the interior?

1,2 & 6 are supposed to be the same. They look different because they've faded from age. What color is the binding on #3? That matches the color of the carpet. The binding looks grey in the pic. Binding is vinyl & doesn't fade like carpet. #4 is the light weight carpet. Previously discussed. #5...

How many different types of material are in the interior?

The foam backing is labelled as 1/4", but it's more like 3/16". It's a very light density & compresses down to near nothing. Without the foam, the material is a limp noodle. Like a pair of nylons. Remember those? (Homer voice. Mmmm...Nyyyylonsss!) Stuff won't hold it's shape. Curls around on...

How many different types of material are in the interior?

OEM seat & d/p fabric is unobtanium. Has been for years. Even when it was last available, 25 years ago, it was stupid expensive. Like $185/yd stupid....and that's in 25 years ago dollars. Headliner is available. That's generic. It's called foam-backed headliner material (!) or 'Nyfoam'...
